Ok so not quite how the topic sounds but I've recently had a baby (she's 4months now) and noticed over the last two weeks clumps of hair coming out whilst I wash it :( I know this is normal blah blah blah but I'm an extensionist and really don't know how to deal with the issue in the safest way. I currently have pre bonds in-a full head as my hairs different lengths all over from extreme under cuts I've had over the last 2 years so before anyone says take them out....I'm afraid its not gunna happen lol. Neither is getting a short short cut! Call me vain.... It's not happening! Lol! So what I wanted to ask was what do you think would be the safest method for me now until it goes back to normal? I've ruled out micro rings aswell but was thinking maybe a micro ring weft? I actually love the bak main double hair method although I'm not trained with them. Would this be suitable? And is it possible to make my own double hair weft do you think? As I said, I know what the best advice is but I need some sort of help!
Also-I've ordered a hair thickening spray product called wave..,,anyone used it?

Hi Kittykat,

Like you said, you know what would be the best thing to do and as an extensionist you probably also know that extensions in the first 3-6 months after pregnancy is not advisable. Anyway... your next best thing would probably be some really good clip-ins as not only would you be able to remove them to brush away the natural shed and prevent matting but you can also be sure that you have enough hair at the clip site to support the extensions.
Second best would probably be a microring weave but I would definitely recommend a quicker maintenance than 4-6 weeks... probably about every 3 weeks as you are losing hair at a quicker rate than normal you need to ensure that there is enough hair in the ring to support the weight... as well as being able to brush away the loss.

Hope that's help in some way... if not maybe somebody else will have some more advice. Good luck x

Hello,

As hair is obviously as much of a passion for you as it is for me professionally, I just had to comment.
I have been a consultant trichologist for 12 years and have diagnosed hair loss in women for all sorts of reasons. As you are aware, hair loss after a baby isn't unusual. If you started breast feeding for the first month then the timing is just right- the difference between " acceptable" catch up loss and a possible hair loss condition is the length of time.
I would suggest trying to wait a while before using any type of extension system as they will fall out with the shed and if the loss continues for a further 6 months perhaps ask your GP to carry out a blood test to rule out certain deficiencies. PM me for more details when and if this occurs. I believe it's important to get to the bottom of why rather than just "covering things up" as some conditions will not just "go away". Enjoy motherhood! Hope this helps. x
