Hi I'm new here. Was just wondering if anyone has done a home learning nail technician course. I've seen a few but not all are recognised for insurance purposes I believe. I am a very new to this too so will have lots of questions I'm sure x

Essential nails is a good company for home learning and there certificate allows you to get insurance.

Thank you that's the one I've been looking at xxx

definately essential nails. brilliant courses

If it's just to learn basic manicure and pedicure for your own benefit, home learning is ok, but I strongly wouldn't recommend it for gel or acrylic products. You definitely need access to a tutor to watch your steps and critique your prep & application technique.

Also, you'll probably find that potential employers and branded training companies such as CND Creative Academy or Harmony Gelish will require you to complete a recognised qualification in manicure as a basic entry requirement to purchasing their products or attending their courses so you'll probably end up paying out twice for similar training.

I say this as someone who completed an Essential Nails course myself a few years ago but then found it had been for nothing really. If you're serious about pursuing Nails as a career, look for part time courses offered by your local college or Nail training academy.

Going to watch this thread. So hard as a beginner to know where to start if you can't make it to a full nvq college course.

Does anyone know if you need a full nvq to work in a salon or rented beauty room, or if you can do the level 2 courses individually to focus on what services you would like to offer? Or would this make you less employable as you have pick n mixed in a way and therefore cannot offer all treatments??
Thanks
