Hi Guys,

After some advice, at the moment i just do mobile and or treatments at my home, at the moment i tend to do friends and friends of friends but i am thinking i need to expand and get more clients.

I do worry a bit about going out and doing mobile strangers houses etc, but obviously its cheaper than a room, or do i build a treatment room in my home.

All on minimal budget and time of course as i work full time as well.
HELP!!!

But whats best room, mobile or home

Thoughts please?

Hi

I have been doing mobile work for some time. I have very recently begun renting a therapy room, so am now doing mobile and room rental until the room rental side picks up.

I have to say I really do not like doing mobile work. It is so easy to get caught up in people's home life - e.g doing a manicure and the Tesco delivery man arrives at the door! I also find that however organised I am, I have so much stuff to lug around.

I have always seen the mobile work as a way of getting the money in, so that I could find a treatment room. On the positive side, it is good to do mobile because you don't have the commitment of rental - if you don't have clients you don't have to worry about paying the rent.

There are pros and cons to both. Either way, you have to work hard to promote the business and get the clients.

good luck!

I work from home and it fits in brilliantly with my life most of the time. I have 2 kids at school and a dog and I work round them. I tried mobile years ago and ended being stuck at peoples houses a lot longer than i wanted to be, also its back braking work lugging all your stuff around, not to mention travelling time and expence. It took some time for me to build up my client base but now im as busy as I want to be and most of it is word of mouth.

HMMMMMM paying more tax when i sell and dealing with councils does not sound fun, i really have no idea how much i should expect to pay if i rented, to be honest at the moment as i work full time and this is my evening and weekend hobby (for want of a better word) i dont think a room is visable, i'd be interested to know the going rates for outter london though.

could you just clarify up to £1000 in business rates?? sorry being dumb i know but would hate to do something and not know all the in and outs!

Thanks :green:

If it's a part-time venture I would stick to mobile, that way you can work as and when you like. I'm full-time mobile and I have to say I don't worry about going to strangers houses - I take sensible precautions, like leaving a copy of my diary on the home pc, but I take people at face value and have never had a problem.

As for getting caught up in people's home lives, it happens to a certain extent, but I always make clients aware that I have another client after them and most are considerate. It all depends on whether you give the attitude that it's a hobby for pin money or a career that you're serious about. My clients know what mine is to me!

I'm full-time mobile and wouldn't change it for anything at the moment, I can be flexible around clients and my family life, I don't pay rent and although getting clients is hard work to begin with I now get a lot of word of mouth business......
