Hi,

I have long (waist length) curly/wavy hair, very dry. Earlier this year I went through a patch of very serious personal issues and it took a toll on my hair. I know if I don't take care of it constantly matts will appear soon.

Well, after roughly a month I had sort of a matted lock and I tried to fix it by myself but I'm just not doing it right. Time has passed and in my embarrassment to fix it myself, it's just expanding to the rest of my hair. I don't have any family or close friends here that can help me with this and I certainly don't want to ask coworkers. As of today, I have four chunks of matted hair that I can't detangle no matter how I hard I'm trying.

I'm more than willing to go for a pixie cut, but my question is on how to go about it. Do I tell a professional about the situation beforehand? Should I call a mobile professional? I don't want to go to a salon like this. Should I cut the bad parts myself and then go and see what can be done?

I'm more than willing to pay whatever extra for the trouble, I just desperately need this fixed.

Hi there!

You will be amazed at what hairdressers can do, I would pop into a hairdressers (or even a few) and at least see if there is anything that they can do before you cut it yourself - try and avoid that :)

Whatever your circumstances all hairdressers would love a good challenge, remember they deal with hair extensions also and lots of ladies don't stick to the aftercare regime and end up coming back when there hair is all matted and 9/10 it can be fixed one way or another!

Try not to brush the tangles anymore as you may pull on them and make them tighter, watch some YouTube videos too and see how others have taken care of it xx

Ok how about you call your local salon and explain on the phone first before going in. I've untangled some of the most biggest matts. Depending on the size of the Matt it may not be necessary at all to even think about a pixie cut. So don't get too worried whatever stylist you see believe me she/he would of seen worse come through the door. You won't be the first to come in with this issue nor the last. [emoji4]

Agree with the other posters, I had a young girl in with the thickest bum length hair which had formed into one huge dreadlock, took me 3.5 hours to get out but I did it! Try a salon first X

Thank you! I think that was exactly the problem, I tried to do it myself and it just seems to be making them more... compact, if that makes sense.

I'm really not that young, I'm 28 :( God, if I lived anywhere near Leicester I'd gladly be your client. Do you think it would be better to go directly into a salon (more apparel to work with, I'm assuming) or contact a mobile professional?

Detangling very matted tangled hair is not as easy as people may think. It can be a bit painful and very tedious on anyone that has tried to do it themselves. Its a project to save your hair. People with curly/wavy hair can really testify about the trials they experience with combing through their lovely hair. We at hair detangler school teach you how to save your extremely matted tangled hair. We only use the take down remover detangler to get out stubborn knots and dreadlock clumps of matted tangled hair ball.
