Hi just wondering how long you would tell a client that their gel manicure should last (subject to proper aftercare)? My course advises 2-3 weeks but I personally only get 10-14 days regardless of brand. Nails properly prepped etc and have had them done by different nail techs previously so I know it's my nails. Thoughts please? Thanks :)

I always say between 2&3 weeks providing they are looked after!

I say, it varies massively depending on the condition of their nails. The average Shellac say is 14 days, but weak nails will struggle to get 7-10 days whilst strong nails can get 4 weeks. I make this clear to avoid unrealistic expectations. I can usually tell if their nails fit into the weak category and then they have the choice of trying to see, or go for an acrylic overlay with shellac on top which costs then more but lasts around 3 weeks

I always say Upto 2 weeks, anything after that's a bonus!! [emoji12]

I always say they should get around about a fortnight depending on how kind they are to their nails and explain that some of my ladies get much longer than that out of them and some don't quite make it to a fortnight, depending on their nails and lifestyle.

Provided they look after them i say usually 2 weeks... as mostly they'll get a bit of growth in 2 weeks and will be ready for soak off and new application. ...

I say usually between 2 to 3 weeks provided that they follow my aftercare advice leaflet. I do stress that soak off is a must on the 3rd week as gels do harden and become harder to remove.

I did have a client which her gel manicure and one stroke nail art did last after 5 weeks and warned her of a longer soak off period. She didn't want to remove it because she liked the art work I did on her nails.

Thanks so much everyone :) I told the client around two weeks depending on her nails / lifestyle so we shall see :) and if they last longer then I look like the best nail tech ever Hahaha I jest :) x

I agree with fluffy26 as the major word is: UPTO. Can last upto 2-3 weeks. That way you are covered for any trauma before the 2 weeks as you never know what clients do when they leave the salon. X

I always say it's "meant" to last "up to" two weeks, and then state "i have clients who have had it last 3-4 weeks so it depends entirely on you and how you care for it"

It also depends entirely on their occupation too, as a horse rider I also throw a LOT of hay as we go out and "buy bulk" so if I get 2 weeks out of mine I'm pretty pleased, anything more than that is frosting [emoji23]

If it's shellac I say 2 weeks. A gel polish I say 2-3 weeks but all depending on the condition of their nails and how they treat them.
I advise how to look after them and to keep nails in good condition. They don't all follow the advice! Usually you can see and feel from someone's nails if they are weak and if it may not last as long so I will advise them of this. My own nails are weak so I get 2 weeks max from a gel polish and about 1 week with shellac.
