Hi hair geeks! Iv workd mobile for 8mnths now and iv not charged for boys and girls haircuts ages 0-4. As im doing alot now im thinking of charging £5 because lets face it it time & hard work! But how do i say to my clients nicely that it will now be £5 and not free!

I would just explain before you start any cuts that due to high demand on children's haircuts and shortage of time recently that you will now have to charge 5 pounds for the cuts for time fees. Maybe word it like this:
"i would just like to say before I start any treatments that I will now be charging 5 pounds for a child's hair cut. This is because it has become a request at many of my appointments and it takes up time. If you would rather me not cut *name's* hair then I am comfortable with your decision"

HTH :)

Thanku thats really good advice ill try it :)

You're welcome. Good luck! x

I agree with the above post, lets face it if they dont pay you at home to do it then they will have to either find someoneelse who will probably charge to come to them or traoes the kids to a salon where they will have to pay - and possibly more, as a mum of 2 boys id rather pay the £5 each cut than have them sat playing around in a busy salon/barbers.

Glad you agree, its always hard to bring it up to clients when theres a change in price, some are fine with it an totally agree & some dont say anything. But lets face it nothing for free these days & with the cost of petrol, products & equipment services prices have to go up also! Its a pain!

I been moblie for a long time and I used to do exactly the same and it became really akward to ask them for money! Now I charge from the start as know I will end up cutting there hair for free for a long time!
And like u say its our job so no matter how small the haircut is we need paying ;-) x

Iv not done a lot of children's cuts, 3 in about 6 months, but I still charge £7 because a don't want to be taken a fool of or be in the same predicament. It's an idea to continue doing the cuts for free and pass out a new price list to all clients and have a start date for it such as a month down the line to give clients some time to decide what they're wanting to do. Xoxo

Yeah i think your right charging from the start is defo the way forward! Told 2 of my clients today and it was so hard to come out and say it, only got what feels like a million more clients to tell...wish me luck!

Good luck with it,, sometimes I think because you are in there home we can do little tiny trims for nothing ! X

Good luck with them all, it's always such a relief when you finally spit it out and they agree! However you will probably get the odd one that tells you to forget it, but think about it this was you haven't lost anything from not cutting the childs hair for free! ;)
I don't do hair but i do nails and beauty and I would handle it the same way as I've worded it above when there's a slight price change etc. Like I said good luck! (sorry I rambled on lol)

Although its a different situation i charge quite alot for childrens hair in salon as it can take just as long as an adult wet cut!
Needless to say i dont get that many in,however i have 3 children of my own and id pay at least £5 for my toddler to have a hair cut if not more as i can appreciate it takes time.
I would be embarrassed to expect someone to provide a service and not offer anything!
I hope you work it all out and get the payment you deserve for your time.

I'd charge just for the fidgeting efforts with the children lol! I'm dreading getting my first childrens cut! x
