I've just had the worst day ever!:Scared:
Two weeks ago I was tempted to trade in my car, but hubby & I decided to be frugal after having just moved. We were told our car (R reg Renault Scenic, fantastic boot space for mobiles) was worth £1000 as a trade in. I thought we'd give it a few months and try to find a great deal, save a bit more etc.
Tonight the head gasket just blew on the damned thing.
It looked like a formula 1 car when the engine blows mid race! Huge billowing clouds of grey smoke as my engine sucked in and burned off all the water and coolant from the radiator.

The very kind AA man said he thinks it's going to the big car scrapyard in the sky, and is now worth aprox £0 as a trade in.
Bit of a bummer really.
We'll have it looked at a garage, have to get it towed in. We might just get a reprieve from losing it altogether in exchange for a huge bill.
Anyone else had a rotten day? Hope not this bad.
Cheers,

That sucks babes, Things can only get better

Hun, head gaskets are not that expensive to do if you can find a garage that wont rip you off. They range between £200-300 but atleast you will still get a trade in price!! my sister done the head in my Clio, I had it fixed and sold it on!!

I would phone around for a quote chick ... hope you get it sorted

Thanks for your support, my hubby had to steer whilst the car was towed to my in-laws, so their other son in law can come & check it over. Lovely man says he'll not charge labour on two days work.
His only concern is if the water has got too far in to the engine and warped the head, then it's a write off. We'll find out tomorrow night hopefully.

Hi hun, don't write your car of yet!
even if it has warped the head, you sit down with the yellow pages and you ring the breakers yards, you'll find some specialise in one make of car and you get one of a scraped engine, that way you still get to trade you car in. Good luck hun

Oh no I have a renault scenic v reg - i keep trying to get hubby to buy me a beetle soft top - but he isn't having any of it  good luck with yours

hope you get it sorted flower - i rely on my hubby to sort my car so i dont have to worry

hope yiou get it sorted very soon

Thanks for all your support. The car is now back up and running!
A friend of the family did the work for us for about £150. He has done about 2 days labour free of charge, I think I love this man more than my own husband at the moment!! If we had to pay labour charges it wouldn't have been worth saving.:Scared:
Wahey, I'm back on the move again!
