We do whatever works for us. I just got my client packs in the mail today. They didn't even take that long to get here. The reusable bags arent as bad as I thought they were going to be. They seem pretty sturdy. They'll def be around a while. I didn't open any of the files yet, I rather do that in front of the client and see how they work that way, but the manicure brushes seem pretty nice. They're nice and soft and not nylon-ly like some of them are. I'm pretty excited!

were did you get the client packs from chic? xo:D

I think this is a fab idea and would love to know what you think of them once you have them. The nail technician I went to before I trained used brown paper envelopes with client names on them after disinfecting them ready for the next time someone came in.

I also use client packs but I make up my own, because I like to choose the files I am going to use on each customer according to what treatment they are having. I use clear zip bags from a stationery supplier (Viking Direct) For each new customer I put in the client record card, various files (I choose which I am going to use when I have done consultation),my menu, treatment and care leaflets, info on my loyalty scheme and recommendation scheme, leaflet on current offers and business card. My business card is actually a nail file with my Logo and telephone number printed on it so it is in fact a free gift to take home. I explain that the files are kept for their use only and I go through all the other bits in the bag and they take all the leaflets, menu etc home with them. I sanitize the files after each use and then wrap them in a tissue and put them in the zip bag along with thier completed client card. All the zip bags are kept in a plastic box in alpha order and each day I pull out the ones I will being needing. All my other equipment is sanitized using barbercide. All my new customers (especially if they have had treatments before somewhere else) seem very impressed with the personal file system and they all love the leaflets and free gift!! I think first impressions mean alot.

I did think about doing this at one point to be honest I'm glad I didn't, it dose seem like a good idea in essence ,but what about the one time wonder clients? You know the one going to a wedding or on holiday, will you keep there packs forever? Or chuck them And Waste the good files that wear never used?
You will still need to buy loads of single files as well, because there will be some in the packs that you will use quicker than others , e.g. 180 grit might need replacing long before the 100 or the 220 on one client , and different for another, so you will have to stock all the files as singles, and have the packs for the new clients , I think you might find your self using twice as many or at least having twice as many in use!
I understand the part of the client feeling special and maybe the client would belive it to be more hygienic but my clients do not think my files unhygienic, after every treatment I check them clean and sanitize them put them away in the pot and at the beginning of every treatment I select the ones I will be using for that treatment lay them out in front of the client and I spray them with Mondo file disinfectant , that way the client knows they are clean , I am not using my valuable space on 100 files packs, and I belive it is still professional.

I do understand what you mean by one time wonders but to be truthful I don't actually get many of them. I mainly do Bio Sculpture Gel nno and a few manicures and pedicures. Even if I only do manicures for a customer occasionally they do still return all be it holidays etc and as I said I can count these on one hand so not really a problem. I find that my Bio converts stay regular and even when a few have had to give it up on a regular basis they still have it for their hols etc, so yes I have kept their bag.
I suppose it is all about offering the client that little bit more that makes you stand out from the crowd and because their are so many of us offering similar services we need to make our clients stay!
I also write to all my customers that I have not seen for a while with my latest offers and new treatments, just to jog their memory that I am still here and you would be suprised how many book in a treatment and their bag then goes back into the current box!
If someone only came in the once then after a year of no reponse I would then use the files for myself. So far this has only happened once.

I would have to say that I stand out to my customers because they see me take a brand new individually wrapped "shorty" file out of it's package at the start of their service and then they see me break it in half and throw it away at the end of their service. And all other sanitizeable tools are autoclaved and sealed in idividual packs and the client sees me open them at the start of their service and then put them in a container clearly marked "do not use" at the end of their service. They also see me take those tools out of a drawer that clearly has multiples of each tool--so they know that I can go a whole day without having to clean my insturments.

Pretty much all my implements are metal apart from my nail files for manicures. Those are backscratcher septi files. All my metal implements get cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaner to make sure my metal files and burrs are free off any debris, then I rinse under running water, let them dry on a towel. When they are dry they go into a sealable plastic bag for sterilizing and then into an autoclave. I know it's overkill but my clients absolutely love it. When I start a treatment I rip open the bag in front of them, put my abrasive sticky onto my backscratcher file holder and my tweezerman pedifile holder and away I go. I have enough implements to last me through the day and do all my cleaning and sterilizing at the end of the day. I have diabetic clients and had a local podiatrist check out my salon and he was well impressed and is happy to recommend me. Food for thought?
