Hi guys

I’ve taken out full membership and insurance with the Guild. Given that I am insured with the guild, will it still be necessary to contact my house insurance company? I’m just concerned that they try to increase my premium when I’m already covered by the guild? Anyone else work from home had to do both?

Hi, I've used the Guild for a number of years. I have a home based salon.
The Guild’s insurance gives you up to £6 million cover against treatment risk, public liability and product liability but you will also have to adjust your house and contents insurance to take your business into consideration (because you have people coming to your property and extra equipment to insure)
last year I renewed with http://midasuw.com/personal-lines/midas-jewel/ but as always with insurance shop around for the best price.

Thank you. And regarding my Mortgage provider, I don’t suppose you know what happens with them once I tell them do you?

You need permission from your mortgage provider and also the council.

Your mortgage provider might tell you that you can't run a business from home. It depends. You need written permission from them and the council just to cover yourself really.

I'm in Somerset so I had to do a full planning application to work from home.
It really varies across the across the country unfairly- some people just seem to notify them with a letter and nothing else required.

Omg I hope I don’t need to do that. To think years ago I never told my mortgage provider, the council or even took out insurance. Crazy I know, but I was much much younger then and a bit naive.

Woohoo. Neither my Mortgage Provider or the Council need me to do anything. [emoji2]
