I use 123 Send and my Streamline payments each month are ridiculous. Being that debit card costs are only about 27p per transaction, I studied my statement and I was shocked to see that most people pay by credit card which is a % of the payment, rather than debit card. Especially when one lady said 'Oh I'll pay on my credit card as I get Tesco points.' Her payment cost me about £7.50!!!!

What would be the cheapest way of taking card details with customer not present and putting the details through ourselves, rather than the client having to do it on their computer etc?

For card payments over the phone I use Barclays Ping it. It's free to use, when someone sends you money it's free to receive too. It's an app (even for blackberry), you don't have to be a Barclays customer (I don't think anyway) and its linked to your phone number and the money is in your account that instant. It is direct from their bank account to yours. For credit cards I use PayPal via Internet but I think there is an app now too xx

Isn't 2.75% from each transaction abit high? Xxx

i too am actively looking into taking card payments and sumup sounded ideal but the customer also needs a smartphone, which I know most do have these days but not some of my mature clients. Im sure something will be available soon but meanwhile Im going to look at adding paypal to my website and see if that works for my small salon :)

Have a look at "SumUp". Its a FREE device, works on both iphones and andriods, (HTC and Samsung etc). Its a FREE app too. Takes both Visa and Mastercard.
Charge is 2.75%. You can put your products on the app for easier selection of charges. Looks good. Will update you when it arrives and I get to use it.

For Blackberry phones there is mPOWA. Similar, its a swipe card reader.
Think it 2.95% charge for new accounts. If you already have a merchant account then they charge 0.25%.

Decided not to go with SumUp they want TOO much personal info.

Will have a look at mPowa instead. Will update when I have more info for you all.

Flippin' heck! You're paying way over the odds Kimmy!

You need to contact Matthew at CCS on 0161 424 9695; I guarantee that he will be able to slash those prices.

I've been paying around £16 a month! That's when I take either £250 a month via card payment or £750 was my highest month on card....
