I think CND training is brilliant.
I'm not sure if you would train with Pamela Rholf (Maidenhead) or Denise Holland (Crawley) but either way you'll love it - I have trained with both.

I've also trained with Jessica Marks (EZ Flow, Crawley) who is also a great educator.

I've not tried OPI or NSI for enhancements so can't advise on going with them.

For initial training my choice would be CND as you will be taught to create beautiful salon nails - which are the backbone of what we do.... all the fancy stuff can be added later if you want.

Hi
I am really interested in doing gel silk or acrylic nail extension training just to use on myself and my family however there are so many courses am not sure which one it best! I cant afford anymore than £300 as I am not intending to go into business, it is mainly so its cheaper for myself and friends to get done ! I cant afford £40 everytime I need them done being a student:cry:! Could anyone advise any routes I could go down on how to learn to do them and also does anyone know of anyone who does training in Fife or Home courses?
Thanks!!!

I trained in London. I went to the nails and beauty academy. The certificate I got at the end of the course allowed me to get insurance, so I am working now!

Hi Hun,

Why don't you contact sweet squared and find out a little more about their training, they'll send you a brochure or you can go onto their website. Your post caught my eye as your in West Sussex, i'm in Brighton and booked to do the signature5 foundation course in Crawley, it starts 8th March. I've done a lot of research on here and it comes highly recommended! Good luck x

I've just looked at the Carlton Insitute site and they actually use EZ Flow produtcs for their nail training. I thought EZ Flow are one of the leading UK nail brands?

Hi All, am new to this and also looking into which course to do - this is a great site and great thread for us newbies :D

CND seems to be the way forward from all the advice I've read, but am a bit confused about the end qualification - sweetsquared say you get a foundation certificate on completing the sig 5 foundation course - is this enough to start working with? (once the practise/techniques are good enough etc obviously lol!) can you get relevant insurances etc? if not which other courses do you need as well?

Also I would like to be able to do the spa manicures/pedicures, do I need to do the main basic man and ped followed by the spa tacular?

PS - apologies for hijacking your thread!!

Hey There Sax'd Out - Firstly I think Bournmouth is the closest Creative Academy to you. Please see below for more answers.

Sweet Squared are the UK distributors for CND. You can choose to start with Nails Naturally or the Foundation course + either Gel or Spa. Remember this is a FOUNDATION - our courses are of course recognised for insurance but it is just that - a foundation. This is your first step into a career in nails. to become a fully fledged Master Nail Tek takes about 18months to 2 years.

Also I would like to be able to do the spa manicures/pedicures, do I need to do the main basic man and ped followed by the spa tacular?

:) Hello, I'm new to all this.....

I'm looking to become a nail technician (self employed) - doing lots of research but am really worried any course i end up doing won't give me the correct qualifications.

I'd prefer to do an intensive course at a college or residential, rather than at home so that i can be taught properly and correctly.

Evening courses in my area not starting until Sept and are only 3 hours a week for months and I'm looking to train quicker than that.

Does anyone know of any good training courses in my area - berkshire?

I've found alot of the courses advertised online aren't specifying the qualification gained and i think mainly you are paying for the equipment rather than the tutoring?

Any help is much appreciated

:)

Hi Hayley,

I'm currently a student too, i'm studying ny NVQ level 3 in nail services, i've heard that sometime in the near future, Habia will require every existing nail tech to be at NVQ level 3 standard and have certificates as proof that they're at that standard... i don't know how true this is, so maybe that's worth researching...

My course is from September-June... a long time and VERY expensive... but i wanted to learn in depth and get as much out of it as i possibly can, i personally do not thnk you can be qualified and learn skilled techniques on a 3 day course, i'm still learning the techniques now, plus on my college course we learn, Gel systems, L+P systems, Advanced Nail Art, Electronic Filing and also a Business Management course, it's a part time course.

I think training courses with Creative (CND), Youngs, Ez Flow, NSI etc are more beneficial to existing qualified Nail Tech's who want to further develop their skills and have a recognised brand to help promote themselves to their clients, i would love to train with Creative...

I know it seems like it'd take ages but i think a NVQ level 3 course is the best way forward for you.xx

I was in the same boat you are in at last fall. But what I found was that both the schools in the area I am in give about the same training. From what I see around my Valley it is not that great. But I went in anyway... Why? Well I had no other options, and I can read. I can study. I can LEARN! That makes me a cut above, and you as well! I don;t know if you have allot of options in the area you are in, I did not. SO I got what I could from them asked all I could and came here. and Read, and read, and read more. I have watched all of the Nailzoo Vids. over and over and over etc. I have learned allot from the great people here, and I am sure to learn more. I am moving to Florida in June and I am thinking of going to a school there as well. Just to get another take on the Craft. But I think all in all, your heart and passion with drive you to be the best you can. The school will teach you the basics, what you do with them is up to you.

It would be grand if you could go to a school like Miss Geek has! You know you would get the care and attention to the work you want!

The Beverley Robinson School of Nails and Beauty i do all my training with Beverley and she is fantastic. Her classes are either 121 or really really small numbers so you dont get lost in the crowd so to speak. She's lovely too and whenever you need her after the course day or night she is always there to help. She's on my speed dial lol x

Well, looking at her website I can see why! No promises of becoming a technician in 1 or 2 days; courses of a reasonable length that are described as a 'foundation'; reasonably priced workshops; no shouting about worthless accreditation. Great ongoing support from what you've said too!

What a nice change

Hi,

This website is great for advice so if anyone can help I would love some advice too. I am looking for a proper nail course. I recently completed an intensive course so, all this did was give me the passion for wanting to do it but also realise how little I can do. I love and enjoy doing what little I can do, but I want to be a fantastic nail technician, not just in the art of how good they look, as such but just making a good job of someones nails, taking care of their hands. Whenever I search the net and even on here I can never actually find a course where I can book onto, just courses that may happen or go back to college full-time. I have 2 children and cant afford to go back to college. I am in no rush to learn, I will take the time needed to learn the skills required, I just want a course where I can go each week for many weeks, or months and learn step by step from the beginning. If anyone knows of anything like this in the sheffield area or chesterfield let me know.

Thanks
