hi there

can i also my tuppence worth? I was wondering if you have been to your doctor? I had very very bad skin as a teen and due to the scarring on my face i was given a product called accutane. its was a tablet then. it helped the problem from within and also helped minimise scarring.

The advise you have been given is fantastic, i just wanted to say that no matter your age, docs take these things more seriously than they used to and if you are experiencing scarring then I would suggest you visit your doc for help to stop any more damage.

While I agree that if your issue is severe you should consult a derm. I am concerned, however, at the growing number of people who are prescribed accutane. It's a very powerful medication with potential huge side effects. Here is a link if you'd like more info on this medication: Accutane (Isotretinion) - Warnings and Side Effects

From what Beanie has mentioned, it doesn't sound like severe acne. So gentle cleansing and a great moisturizer, along with a hydrating booster at night to help replenish skin (after using Clinique) will help hugely! It sounds very similar to a persisting issue I have with my skin. It's stress related, and whenever I'm over worked/stressed I get these nasty little buggers around my jaw, chin, and occasionally on my cheeks. I little extra (cream & acidic based) exfoliation seems to help speed the process along.

I do like the apple pack idea, I will definitely give it a try during another one of my breakouts.

Good Luck Beanie and I HTH!

Thank You all for the wonderful advice!

Although my problem is certainly not acne I have been to the doctors for some advice and was given the name of a cream to try. Quinoderm 10.

It smells like bleach and burns like hell after a few seconds of applying but seems to work when I have a small cluster of spots break out. However, It REALLY dries my skin, to the point of it actually flaking off if I use it for more than a few days in the same place. (I know you are going to shout at me for using it!)

I haven't used it for a while and I don't plan to if I can find an alternative which is less harsh but works to reduce any spots I get.

Having not used my clinique since posting here, my skin does seem to be a lot calmer already. I have been cleansing using a very mild soap and water and have resisted the urge to scrub for the moment!

I had considered carrying on with just the Clinique dramatically different gel moisturizer but to be honest, it didn't really feel like it was doing anything. My skin never felt quenched or hydrated, just sort of like I was putting it on for the sake of it, because it was part of the 3 step. I tried the lotion and found that was too oily for my skin but the gel isn't moisturizing enough. So for the last day or so, I haven't used anything.

I have been out today and as I couldn't get to a Boots in time, I stopped at Tesco and bought a cleanser and toner from their 'Skin Wisdom' range which contains green tea, chamomile, grapefruit and witch hazel and a light moisturizer from 'Simple' which contains vit B5, Vit E and glycerin.

I wanted to get some products which don't contain the harsh chemicals that clinique does, and to give my skin a break and chance to get over the abuse I have given it. (Feeling really guilty now!)

Do any of you know a skincare specialist I can go and see in Dorset? Im afraid if I go to see my doctor again he will only give me medication or cream that may damage my skin before it starts to improve. Also looked into the mineral make-up as advised and I think I will take this route as it won't clog my skin as its healing and re-balancing.

Thanks again! B. :)

Think you will see a magnificent difference in your skin now, not stripping it, and rehydrating it.

How much of an outbreak do you get?

If your hormones are off balance, or you suffer stress, live in a polluted city outbreaks are a part of our life.

You will never cease to have spots altogether (I Wish!!!), so you have to embrace those outbreaks with a quick dab of concealer!

I have women in there 40's and 50's suffer from acne, or minor outbreaks and I just put it down to everyday living. Although it would be easier for us women if they appeared on our bums not our faces lol!

Hope you get the results you want soon.

Thanks Kitty.

I would say my outbreaks are occasional. Maybe 2 or 3 spots in the same areas every 7-10 days. Only really around my mouth, on my cheeks and chin.

Something else which I was curious about was, I have a few spots that I purposely didn't squeeze or pick and they have gone BACK inside my skin as small, hard lumps under my skin. They haven't returned as spots but haven't disappeared either, they are just there! Any ideas what these may be and how to get rid of them?

Ultimately I will be happy if I can regulate my skin and achieve an even complexion. I don't mind the occasional spot (as long as it isn't a big ugly one!) and I would love to be able to repair the scarring I have so that I can wear less cover up and let my skin breathe! That would be heaven!

Thanks Again! B. :)
