Offered a chair.....

hi everyone!

im in such a quandry! i have been offered (for the 2nd time!) a chair to rent at a local salon. Id say its definately in the top 3 salons in our area for quality of work and all the girls are really lovely, I have known the owner/senior stylist for years and it was she who really inspired me to start hairdressing at the late age that i did (all of 25 lol!!) She also already gives my number to girls looking for "at the venue" wedding and event hair and extensions as she doesnt do them herself.

Its a 50/50 split, they provide all products etc. so that seems ok.... my problem is when i chatted about this the 1st time round a lot of my mobile clients said they wouldnt want to go to a shop. I would need to be busy to make it worth my while as I'll be £40 a day in nursery fees before i earn anything

The salon is really busy and Im sure Id build up new clients eventually but im so scared and dont know what to do!!!!

hi

could you just start by doing 2-3 days a week in the salon and still do mobile for the rest? that way u can build up ur clientele without losing ur mobile customers. it sounds like a good opportunity though.

i know... i think il go into the shop and have a real good chat with them, see exactly what the score is with walk ins etc it does seem like a great opportunity, my OH isnt being as supportive as id like "do what you want, just remember how much uv spent on ur own products tho". helpful as ever. x

Sounds fab to me ! I agree if the owner likes you she will b prepared to let you build up a clientele, start will 2/3 days a week ? Best of both worlds, and don't forget you can do 3 times more clients in a salon to freelance and charge more. You will learn more, earn more be more up to date socialise more ! I could go on and on lol good luck I think u hav already made up yr mind

thanks guys yeah i think iv pretty much decided lol! would be great to work with other people again!!! yeah the girls are all really nice so i think i would fit in ok, thats actally whats making me nervous though i can put on a good show for clients but im really quite shy!!..... im going to pop in through the week and have a chat getting fed up with the driving about, waiting on colours developing and people thinking that because they are in their own home it should be really cheap and iv just found out i would also have "use" of the junior/sat girls for washing etc. yeah i think iv made my mind up lol!! xx

You could possibly start Saturdays there then work from that, that way maybe your OH can child mind?

therein lies the problem, my OH is in the merchant navy and is off the coast of Nigeria for another month, and has been for the past 3 months! My dad works FT as do my in laws and not sure how id feel about asking them to take Nicky every sat for me, a few hours is fine but i dont want to take the mick!
Saturdays would be the way forward though, I do a lot of hair ups on fri/sats for nights out so could defo be busy those days! Might see about doing Fridays initially as thats already a nursery day xx
