Hi, I am thinking of setting up an agency for hairdressers and beauty therapists. I am in a big city so I think it may go down well. I am a little tired of being let down with staff sometimes. Not being bitchy or anything but I have had lengthy sickness, holidays etc etc and it can be a nightmare to get cover, turn clients away, which I hate doing! Anyhow there seems to be agencies for Nurses, lorry drivers, temps, the list goes on but not for our industury. I am sure that there are lots of us out there, either mobile, part time, who would want to work in a salon but not all the time, who might be interested in joining an agency for covering holidays, sickness. What do you think? would you use an agency and would you join an agency with the prospect of topping up your work load? Thanks, Dawn

Dawn, I have to say that this is a cracking idea you have here. Go for it! I have used Agencys for staff in the past and although its not ideal it gets you out of a very BIG hole at times. However an Agency specifically for our industry is an excellent idea. Even though we operate in a very lucrative field many, many people within it are unreliable. As I said go for it!

Hi Dawn,

I too think this is a great idea, I think it would help a lot of salons out of the proverbial hole. Would you have a range from juniors to Level 3 onwards to Masters?

Brilliant idea. Go for it. xxx

Hi

I think its a fantastic idea and a great opportunity not just for yourself but for us ladies in this industry, id say definetly go for it.

good luck

Defnitely.

I have often thought of offering myself out for maternity leave etc. I don't want full time - but don't mind a bit of hard graft a few days a week.

It will save salons alot of lost revenue.

I would be classed as a senior therapist - so wonder how that work out in terms of pay.

I am encouraged by this positive feedback. It's great to get peoples opinions. The pay scale would be more than they would get as the going rate because that is how agencies work. Anybody using them know this is the case but don't mind as its a temporary thing that gets them out of hole. Plus as the last lady commented on, it's nice to go back to a salon environment for a while, even better when you know its not on a permanent basis. Keep the comments coming please.

I think its a fantastic idea and think that this could be very successful

Go for it hun

The one thing I would stress with this is that you really need to be up on employment law which is a pain in the arse at times. The last Agency we dealt with really done my head in through this. It can be a very tricky and complex issue so I would seriously brush up and get to know your stuff.

go for it! I thought about setting something like this up too but never got round to it! the feedback I had was that you'd need a good base of people so that you had a lot of products covered, eg Dermalogica, espa, guinot, etc etc but I think it would be great , the lost revenue when someone goes poorly is a nightmare and the ability to fill quickly would be great. You could also think about having receptionists on the books.

i think this is a fab idea.....at the salon i work at ...we recently had a major issue when the boss was on holiday and the only other stylist walked out and took the junior beautician and hair junior and another hairdresser with her.....the salon was left with no one......we eventually managed to get some help in but it would have been soooo much easier if there was an agency that was around that we could have called on...it would have saved allot of stress!!

Its an excellent idea Dawn, go for it!!!

Hi, why exactly did they leave? I ask because a similiar thing happened to me once. Sometimes bloody staff forget who are paying their wages it would seem.
