Product recommendations for root lift

i'm here with my mate (who's a hairdresser) and he says perhaps the length on your crown is too long, layers should be shorter through crown (perhaps by point cutting), to allow natural lift depending on growth pattern..... thats such a mouthful for me, but this guy knows what he's talking about
