Hi, I kno I'm still a student, but I'd like to put my two pennys worth in........
The 1st set if pictures, to me, it does look like product contamination that is causing the yellowing on the overlay, I had this when I first started to learn about L&P........ also I noticed that she has yellowing around the cuticle area, more so than on the rest of the nail bed that you can see, but the part of the nailbed that does'nt have yellowing was probably filed away anyway, but my concern would be the growth with yellowing???

The 2nd set of pics are lovely, but as some of the others as said, I noticed the ring lines, of where you used the file

It may be just the colour quality of the photo.

Yellowing of the surface of the nail plate can be merely a matter of staining from everyday usage of makeup, cleaning products, curry, tea, smoking .. etc etc..

It is also pretty impossible to tell just by looking what is causing product yellowing ... it is not necessarily contamination.

Yellowing can be from inferior products ageing .. bad mix ratio .. the causes listed above ... it all looks the same. Only by filing and buffing the product can you get closer to the actual cause.

thanks so much for all your help!
i would say the yellowing is from cleaning prods and smoking - infact that is her right hand in the picture. and picture quality is not great either - flash light gives it an awk look.

back to topic - i think im better off starting again with a full set - use koala for etching and ditch file. do i use primer on everyone??
and also - what i still cannont find an ans to is this - i agree about the rings of fire ect - must admit nails were quite soft. but what i found weird is that for a whole year no problems, but all of a sudden i started seeing this - whether it was a new client or an older one. thinking of it, must be when i changed bits - maybe it was new and too harsh.
would you suggest i should give clients a break from acrylic and let nails get healthier, or could i just soak off and start fresh right away??
sorry im ranting a bit but all sorts of things are going tru my head -
and with regards to creative - it was always my fav, and i worked with quite a few brands - always fall back on it. just love the quality of product.

thanks loads for all ur help!

If I take the above questions from the top?

do i use primer on everyone?? I never use primer at all with CND. I have never used it in 15 years on anyone. If you feel you must then use the Acid Free Primer but if the nails are thin it will not help the product to bond any better. Primer is to help with excessively oily nails and excessive oil is not your problem.

what i found weird is that for a whole year no problems, but all of a sudden i started seeing this. Actually it may seem weird, but it really is not, nor was it really all of a sudden. Excessive thinning of the nail plate happens, like overexposure, OVER A PERIOD OF TIME. The cumulative effect of using a drill takes time. Given the time and the continuing trauma the nails get so thin they cannot cope. They get so bendy that the product can no longer adhere to it with any force. The time factor may not be the same for everyone just as your prep can be harsher or not depending on what you do on the day, but it is only over time that you will see it.

would you suggest i should give clients a break from acrylic and let nails get healthier,? If this had happened to me in the salon I would start with a new set BUT I would apply a very light set of nails (nothing thick or heavy) and work with the client TOGETHER for 2-3 months to keep them on, by keeping the enhancements short and well maintained every 2 weeks.
Regular use of Solar Oil by the client and in a couple of months your troubles should be over.

You do not have to ever be harsh with prep when using CND. CND works best with thorough but minimal prep using the correct products and tools not files or drills. Also be very precise with your application and do not touch the sidewalls or eponychium with your L&P.

I hope this advise proves helpful which I know it will if you follow it.

Geeg, you beat me to it! :)

Start fresh right away, while the clients are still coming to you for regular appointments, but as geeg said, a manageable length would be more successful while the damage grows out. I'd also suggest getting some additional CND training, even just a one2one for 2/3 hours with you local ambassador, it will put you back on the straight and narrow AND increase your confidence. Tell your clients you've received additional up to date training to put their minds at rest and account for the changes in you service procedure.

A more reliable system I have never found.
