they are looking at getting 4 nail tech's in and 10 hairdressers, so dont think that they will budge on rent. Not unless everyone starts thinking the same as me and that it is alot of money. do you think it is worth saying the them that it is to much or wait and see what happens as they might lower it if people wont take the position

Hi
Its me again
I think £150 is high.
You will be so stressed if you aren't making enough money to cover the rent
Are you getting a room or just space?
I pay 50 a week plus 20% comm and I hate parting with that!!!
Good luck whatever you decide
x

it is totally unrealistic to open a salon in an empty shop and expect enough clients for 4 techs and 10(!!) hairdressers to come through the door from day dot. To fill that little lot up would take approx 130 clients a day! Based on less than 10 each. Fantasy land.

i pay 100 a week in louth which is about an hour or so from yoü. I am the only nail tech in our salon. How would you decide who's client it is if you had a walk in? With us i am the only one so they all come to me but if all four tech's are in one day and you get a walk in, who's is it? I'd think about that because it would mean that if the salon had 4 walk ins one day you would only get one! And if they get 5 who gets the extra one etc. Could all get messy! Good luck hun lol! X x x

I was in a similar situation and am working part time in a new salon. The owner wanted me to pay a set weekly rent but I negotiated to pay a percentage instead (until I decide I want to change this). I pay 50/50 and she provides all the products except my gels. I get to use the nail desk and treatment room, reception, telephone, staff room etc.
This works for me as things are fairly quiet at the moment and I didn't bring an existing client base. There's no way I could afford a weekly rent (she wanted £150 per week regardless of how many days I worked there - I do 2 days!)

Don't be scared to negotiate and keep your options open.
Good luck x

As previously said, I would always go for a % rate to start with as you have no regular clients. Thats what I did, I have been in a salon(only 2-3days a week) a few months and have a few clients now but Jan is dreadful! So I just pay a % of what I earn, so if I dont earn anything one week I dont pay anything, that way your never out of pocket. :)

I live in Doncaster and I work mobile so I know where you are coming from. £150 a week is way to expensive for Doncaster even if it was in the town centre. If it were Leeds then it would be a different matter lol!
Good luck with it tho as it is hard work for anyone at the min.

i got offered a spot in a salon when i qualify for £25 a day....after seeing some of the posts here im going to renegotiate because it would seem im going to be paying too much for a small table in a busy salon, for £25 i could have my own room somewhere by the sound of it :S

hiya i am doing the same thing after qualifying 6 months ago and i pay £50 a week but she is really good and said to me if i have a bad week with no clients i dont have to pay that week, just to pay it and another weeks rent when i have a really good week. (I am in Beverley so not too far from you!) I work around my husbands shifts/nursery/school etc so its great!:)

Hi Geeks

i have been offered a position as a nail tech in a hairdressors and i am going to see the lady tomorrow to discuss things. I do work for myself at the moment mobile but things are quite (only been doing it six months), even though i do have a few regulars thought it might be an opportunity to help get me going and a bigger client base. The owner of the salon says that i can work for myself and please myself when i work so i can still fit in my mobile as well.

Just wondered ( as i am fairly new to the industry) what is the going rate for paying for this. I know that this will vary up and down the country, i live in doncaster. I dont want to go and see her then if i decided to do it pay over the odds as i am not sure what i should pay.:suprised:
