Hi! I’m looking to introduce a reward/commission scheme on retail sales for staff, any advice please?
Currently we don’t have anything but I would like to reward the staff for their sales whilst also providing an incentive to boost further retail sales.
Thank you!

Hi there

How did you get on? I can't believe no one responded. I'm banging my head against a brick wall with my team. They are on a good package, but trying to incentivise them to sell is a nightmare. What did you put in place in the end?

The OP has been absent since shortly after posting, but maybe someone else will be able to help you out?

I hope so..[emoji5] We don't educate to be pushy, more to tell the story . Whilst understanding that retail doesn't come naturally to some, trying to get our team to sell is painful.[emoji21]

Do you give them targets to hit?

Hi tiara08.. We haven't as yet. We didn't really want a target driven culture in the salon. In everything else they perform really well.

Well I have worked in a few different places over the years but was always told "It's my job to sell". If you think about it people are purchasing their products from somewhere so why not from you? Do you sell skincare? If so are the companies you deal with offering any incentive for good sales? Most Spa brands would do this. I've also been given 10% commission on retail in jobs. I totally agree about been pushy, it will put the client off or else she will never come back but you can always educate and leave them with some basic knowledge because at the end of the day they are coming to you for a reason or with a concern that they want a solution to![emoji2]

Beauty sales are no problem it's the stylists! Even though we offer 10% commission on top of their performance commission it's just not happening. I've tried coaching and things may improve for a week, then back to ambivalence. The only one who sells well and unlike the others, has family and a mortgage. she's a vibrant personality and a natural at product promoting. So, a question.. If we start targeting on retail and they don't make target, but are great stylists, What then? We try to rule with the carrot rather than the stick.

Yes it's difficult. Could you sit down with them and find out where they are falling down or what they are struggling with? Regular retail workshops are great to boost people. You could consider changing the pay structure or adding in an overall monthly/quarterly prize for best retailer eg. A spa/salon swap voucher as a treat?
