Noreenoconnor, thank you so much for all your help. Her wedding was yesterday morning and I got there extra early just so I knew I wouldn't have to rush! I took note of your tips and it made such a difference. Her makeup was beautiful and everyone commented on it! It took me just over an hour... She loved it so much that I ended up doing 9 of her wedding guests too?! I was so rushed, it was incredibly stressful and I had a sweat on from the nerves BUT I just did the basics (base, foundation, 2 colour eyeshadow, liner, mascara, blush & tinted gloss, so no brows unless needed, no false lashes, no lipstick etc) which took me 20 minutes per person... Lucky I had lots of brushes and lots of brush cleaner!!

I was there for 4 hours and came home feeling very faint, but I got lots and lots of messages thanking me. They all tipped too (despite my reduced price for so many people and not doing the full works like I did with the bride). The makeup stayed on from the morning until the early hours of the next morning (and they have the pictures to prove it)!

You have been such a help and I really appreciate you taking the time out to answer my questions :) I feel so much more confident now, although I know my limits after that and will be putting the brakes on after 5 in future!!

The pictures on this thread are lovely and I'm feeling inspired! I did a pink smokey eye on myself today:

Xxx

So glad the wedding went so well for you!! Loving the eye make-up

Glad wedding went well - sounds fun and a bit crazy haha!!

I had a bridal trial today which went well - thank goodness.
The last bride I attended to for a trial had no idea what she wanted but all she could tell me is she wanted her face a different colour than the rest of we body.

Haha that would have made more sense.
She didn't like her natural face colour so wanted something different. I tried to explain that I'm complimenting her skin tones and making sure everything blends well.
I think she wanted a big orange face with a line around her

These are fab! I love artistic stuff. Specially 6 along. Where do you advertise or find the models to do artistic stuff for. I tend to get mostly prom wedding and occasion etc.
to build up a portfolio for this type of stuff would you say it's best to do free make up for people as volunteers to get the pictures built up I really like your work

I started doing work for free (tfp) to build up a portfolio and registered with model mayhem to get models , photographers. Like anything you start at the bottom and work up, or colleges are quite a good way where they teach photography . You do need to be careful with who you work with, as there are a lot of very amateur photographers and it's a waste of your time and talent to work for free for someone that is nt going to deliver you pictures that you would actually want to use. - I learnt that the hard way. So check out their portfolio and if you like their style .
From there it leads to more paid work and magazine editorials , but it takes a bit of time and a lot of networking .I do a lot of weddings, proms , makeovers etc to pay the bills .

Sisters prom xx

Thanks for your advise and inspiration I'm excited to start a new venture into artistic make up.

No worries , and good luck it's such a great feeling seeing your work in print

Emzil16- do you use an airbrush make up or regular make up for your foundation. I use airbase foundation but have just ordered a mac face and body foundation to trial.

No I could nt get on with airbrush makeup , it was maybe my technique but I always get a better finish using liquids and brushes . I was using a iwata silver jet and temptu s/b foundations.
I do carry several different types an brands tho and trailer it to the finish and skin type I need .
But mac face and body is a good all rounder for shoots

did all you ladies do a make up course to start out its my dream to be a make up artist especially for weddings and although i did beauty therapy years ago i wasnt enough i dont think.. plus how do you all start as in kits etc i just keep thinking about it and im 30 so not getting any younger so want to get my butt into gear. hope you dont mind me asking but i have been following this thread with major envy of you ladies!x

I started later in life , I studied beauty therapy when I was 26 and I covered makeup but not nearly enough to be a makeup artist . I did a bit of beauty and then realised it was makeup that I wanted to do so I did a fashion and photographic makeup course at a local college and then went to the academy of makeup in Glasgow to study advanced bridal makeup, but to be honest most of my learning is done just by practising , reading , YouTube etc and being out there working.

thankyou for replying yeah i watch make up tutorials every day and learn so much but how do i even go about sorting a kit... i already have quite a few good brushes (sigma, mac and real techniques) how much is it going to cost me to get started? do you think its worth spending a lot of money for courses such as aofm or wud a cheaper one be enough? sorry for all the questions just feel a bit lost as to where to even start x
