Hi all,

I have posted on here before due to problems with shellac not lasting but I am at a bit of a loss of what to do now as feel I have followed the advice I have kindly been given. I read the glowing reviews on here of how long it is lasting for other techs and therapists and feel rather useless!
I did french on a work colleague on thursday evening, come monday 3 of the smile lines had chipped! She said she wore gloves for washing up and housework but after ironing she noticed the white had chipped slightly on one and then possibly typing has destroyed the others. I know she is applying solar oil as I sit opposite her and have seen her applying it daily. Her nails are in very good condition and not particularly long. She is fine about it but I am really disappointed with myself as she has been showing everybody at work so a great advert! I have watched fingernail fixers videos for chip prevention french, I have been really 'srubbing' with scrub fresh, applying thinly, shaking the bottles thoroughly by tapping on my hand and sealing the free edge. I did base, negliee, X2 Studio White as it wasn't a great coverage with 1 and top, and I use the CND lamp! trying sooo hard and just not getting the results I want. There is only so long I can continue blaming the clients aftercare

Hi

Not sure if there is a hard and fast rule re: french and if I'm doing it wrong I'm sure other geeks will advise but I put my base then white tips then two coats colour then top coat and my white tips have never chipped.

Maybe try this? :)

If your client types then that's constant knocking on the tips, we all have a dominant hand so maybe this is why its happened to one hand more so than both.
Although shellac is said the last a fortnight it is of course down to client wear and tear too.

Is it possible you did the white tips a little thick? Sometimes if they are thicker they will chip.

If there is no logical reason from your end as to why this is happening then what is your explanation for it if not client interference??

We say up to 2 weeks with normal wear and tear ... is typing all day normal wear and tear for the majority of women's nails??

Sounds like continual banging on the keys has taken its toll which seems totally logical that it would do. Her nails are not going to last the same as a person who just goes about their normal business of the day. Some people are just more clumsy than others with their hands.

Cheer up .. don't feel useless ... we all have clients whose Shellac lasts weeks and then we also have clients whose Shellac does not last that long .. same with enhancements, Nail wraps, gel nails, manicures and pedicures. It is not a perfect world and that does not make it your fault or give you reason to own someone else's damage as if you were responsible for it.

If all of your clients were experiencing the same then I would say you need some 121 help with your application ... if it is the odd person I'd say 'that's life in the nail business'.

A friend of mine had shellac in her hands for over 2 weeks (about 17 days). One day, she decided to cook and was in a very small kitchen with all this steam around her hands. she told me in her next appointment, that she noticed that after exposure to the steam her shellac pilled very very easily. My client was cooking your client was ironing. both of them had their nails under hot steam, when the pilling started. coinsidence??

Don't worry I'm having the same problem as u..I haven't done much practice with shellac other than in my course and when i bought it everyone wanted so I started doing treatments and now I regret this as its now showing in my work..one clipped had her nails chip after 2 days and the other was streaky..I'm doing all the right things as u like I was taught but I think I'm just going to give shellac a break and doing a lot more practice..I was really upset by it all and then done some research and found that the tutti Frutti colour I was using is actually a hard colour to use as a few people have had problem before..also just in case it's the bottle it's self I'm going to by all my product from S2 and no one else to see if this will eliminate the problem..my biggest tip is to use the CND smoothing gel underneath you shellac..it makes it last so much longer and you will have happy clients the only thing is its a more expensive so they don't always opt to use it so I was thinking of just using it as standard for a while until I can do it without it..hope this helps and I totally know how u feel xxx

I am a cook and spend the majority of my time doing it and changing beds and ironing sheets especially this time of year ...... my Shellac and now my BL Smoothing gel do not peel. We must not be looking at spurious excuses. No coincidence .. just excuses.

The reality is that the ones experiencing problems are naturally the ones who do not work full time in the job, have very few clients, little experience and are not getting the practice or returning clients. When all of those things increase .. you will find the problems disappear.

perfect!

I also had same problems with shellac lasting on some of the clients until I started using BL smoothing under all my shellac. There are still few clients that shellac just doesn't work. So I started using progel on them n all is good. 👌

Thank you again for the advice. Geeg, would you say Brisa Smoothing would prevent the shellac chipping for somebody typing regularly, even if they have healthy and strong nails? I've ordered some today so will practice on a few friends before I am let loose .
Just cannot wait for the day i return to a client and my work is still looking good for a confidence boost.
Leah, on my 'Shellac gets them back course', my trainer pointed out that I should be holding the brush parallel to the nail rather than pointed down (if that makes sense!) and use the lightest of strokes to minimise streaking, hth.

The BL Smooting gel certainly adds a power boost to Shellac but who knows?? Maybe this girl needs the strongest option of Sculpting gel? Maybe not. We have the choices to cover all activity levels ... sometimes it takes some experimentation and team work between the client and technician. But you will get there.

I work as a typist and use shellac all the time with no chipping dramas, I get 2-3 weeks wear from shellac and I work 5 days a week typing

I type all day too. and like you, do not get chipping BUT I do not use my nails to type. I use the pads of my fingers .. I sometimes get wearing along the edge of my index or middle finger but nothing anyone else but myself would notice. It is what it is. Also I touch type and do use all of my fingers but these days you do not have to bang on the keys really do you .. its quite delicate really. But everyone does things differently. Myhusband cannot type with out bashing the keys .. drives me nuts lol.

some clients get long wear some dont and sometimes there is no rhyme or reason for it!! I have a client who has 3 small children and she gets 4 weeks from her shellac!!whereas I have other clients who dont have children and still live at home (dont do housework etc) and they get 2 weeks....does that make sense?? no it doesnt....do what you are doing, if your client/colleague isnt complaining then dont worry!!xx

I know myself that my nails are not strong enough to hold shellac for 2 weeks, I have such weak nails. Brisa smoothing gel extends the wear for me but as I change mine weekly (I like to experiment) I do not use it much. I did use it on a client who went on a 2 weeks Caribbean cruise and she got 3 weeks wear from her shellac manicure. It was flawless when I returned I her house!! It give such a good base to the nail, I really recommend it :)

Be careful though and bring the credit card because you'll go in for a "couple" of colours and end up walking out with 3 bulging carrying bags!!! ;)
