The BL Smooting gel certainly adds a power boost to Shellac but who knows?? Maybe this girl needs the strongest option of Sculpting gel? Maybe not. We have the choices to cover all activity levels ... sometimes it takes some experimentation and team work between the client and technician. But you will get there.

Im new to salon geek and I too am struggling to get shellac to last. I do all the steps from the shellac brings them back course but my clients are finding the shellac just peels of! I feel really disheartened by it. What is BL smoothing gel? Is it a different sort of base coat? Im really confused and just want to do it right, especially with so many salons near to me using cheaper products which then reflects on the price. I feel my clients arent getting value for money when shellac is only lasting a few days? Any help would be amazing, thank you xx

Hi, don't feel disheartened I have only been using cnd for 3 months and after some extra one to one tuition I have finally mastered it, I wrote down all the problems I was having i.e where the lifting was coming from, I soon realised that my problem was a number of factors, my problems were:-
*Not washing cuticle away properly with soapy water,
*not leaving enough of a gap between shellac/gel and the cuticle,
* one of my bulbs in my cnd lamp was loose, due to being mobile maybe,so always check.
I went to Katie in Cheltenham and she was fantastic!
If you have no luck I would advise you filming yourself and watching it back and if you can't see any faults then have some one to one with a trainer, or go back to whoever trained you.
There is some great advice on this forum! X
Good luck.x

Shellac should never peel off by itself. But anyone can peel it or any gel polish off if they want to ... Anyone can pick ordinary polish off if they want to.

If Shellac is lifting on its own then That is a problem of under curing (are you using the CND UV Lamp?) or applying Shellac to weakened, damaged or naturally thin nails which are bending at the edge? Women who have their hands in hot water and whose nails then subsequently become bendy and who 'play' with the ends (I'm one of those at times when my nails get too long)? If you are seeing this on one or two nails (usually ring finger, thumb or index finger of dominant hand) then I would suspect client interference.

If this lifting is a general thing on many nails then it's wrong lamp or too thick an application around the edges.

Chin up, AmyLou :D. These problems can be fixed with experience and lots of clients through your hands to boost your confidence. Don't over think it and dread doing it ... Just paint beautifully, cure correctly and relax.

Brisa lite smoothing gel is a gel used under Shellac that adds strength to weak and bendy nails that don't normally go for the full 2 weeks plus with only Shellac. Brisa lite is just painted on and cured before the Shellac. Brisa Lite Smoothing Gel does not need to be used for clients with healthy normally strong natural nails but is perfect for clients with ridged, flakey/delaminating, or weakened ... What I call 'challenged' nails.

Most of my clients have no problems with Shellac but my Mum is a big problem! She loves having shellac but cannot keep it on. Her middle fingers on both hands are paper thin and very bendy. After a week the shellac has cracked across the nail. I've tried brisa lite smoothing gel which stopped the cracking but now she has got lifting of the gel and shellac as a whole piece (looks like her fingernail is falling off) from the bottom of her nails (eponychium). I'm putting the brisa lite on very thinly and the shellac. I have the brisa lite sculpting but haven't been on my course yet so not tried it. Does it adhere better than the smoothing gel? Would it be worth trying this on her middle fingers? I've done full pep, use the CND lamp and all CND products. My mum has been using her solar oil and wearing gloves. I tried the smoothing gel on myself and another client just to see if it lasted and neither of us have had a problem. Any advice?

Lol my mum is my Worse client!!! Just to check, make sure your not rubbing/ massaging the cuticle away into the nail and also your thoroughly washing it away with soapy water. Maybe bring it up at your brisa sculpting course or book in some 1 to 1. Also finger nail fixer on YouTube has some good trouble shooting vids, o yea have you checked your bulbs? Xxx

Thanks for your reply. My lamp is nearly new so don't think it's the bulbs and no one else has same problem! Mums eh?!

Hi

I was having some problems when I first changed over to shellac and it turned out one of my bulbs wasn't fitted correctly in my lamp which caused the problem. I look them all out and put back in again and have had no problems since :)

Good luck and keep going with it.

Hi everyone! So do you put the smoothing gel on after the shellac base coat and then your normal 2 coats of colour then top coat?

Smoothing gel base coat before smoothing gel.

Oh ok. So just to confirm, smoothing gel base, then smoothing gel, then 2 coats of colour and then top coat? Xx

Brisa Lite base coat - cure 10 secs
Brisa Lite Smoothing gel - cure 2 mins
Shellac colour x 2 - each cured 2 mins
Shellac topcoat - cure 2 mins

If your client types then that's constant knocking on the tips, we all have a dominant hand so maybe this is why its happened to one hand more so than both.
Although shellac is said the last a fortnight it is of course down to client wear and tear too.

Is it possible you did the white tips a little thick? Sometimes if they are thicker they will chip.

When I read the "typing" part I thought the same thing. Typing is tough on the nails. Capping the free edge and making sure to get the top coat all the way to the sides is the only thing that seals in the white, but once the free edge gets worn off, the gel will chip. Not only that, but typing also tends to bend the nails a bit, so it's not just wearing off the capped free edge, but then you've got cracking from trauma with bending of the nail plate itself.... The only other thing I can think of is that I usually put my top coat on in two coats if I know I'm dealing with someone who types. That extra "help" from you without added charge tends to make the client loyal to you, even if they still end up chipping, because they know you're trying to get them longer wear. Oh, and you have to shake the heck outta the dang bottle before using because white always wants to thicken up, and make sure to apply it in two very very thin coats. Hope this helps.

I didn't think to check as only done 5hr, i thought I was dreadfully at shellac!!!
I blame it on my erratic driving!!! It's left me paranoid and I check my bulbs before every client now, lol.x
