Have you never heard the saying "madmen and Englishmen in the midday sun).
You guys have pale skin, freckles, red hair somewhere in you lineage, yet you want to fry you ***** in a microwave for vanity.
I am of the same heritage (I was born in Durham for those that don't know), used sunbeds (which I owned), diagnosed and had skin cancers burnt off.
I had my sunbeds for a further 3 months, but refused all clients (told them bulbs were blown, beds weren't working ......any excuse..... eventually
(This was when I sold my sunbeds) and sensibly turned my back on the fry your ass industry , I no longer cared about profit (and bore the scars to prove it).
How anyone with a conscience can sell/promote this kind of service is beyond me.
Would you like pictures of where cancers were cut out' where cancers were burnt off, the lack of pigmentation, the scars or do you just prefer to think of a superficial tan that you can profit from and can possibly lead to a death sentence?
Im guessing this was some years ago Karl ..am I right? and im guessing the problems you encountered were not dissimilar to the theory of driving down a mountain in a car at 100mph.....highly dangerous.
Regulations and policing of those regulations have moved on considerably over the last few years and dam right to as it is exactly these regulations that have made salon operators ...well erm ..operate in such a manner as to mitigate exposure to risk.
Unfortunately, generally speaking, it is the consumer that dupes these regulations and restrictions by acting irresponsibly that cause problems not only for themselves but for this industry to boot.
One could argue that if there is a potential for the consumer causing damage to themselves through misuse and abuse the we would have to close every off licence and ban the sale of alcohol completely as well as the sale of cars, private boats, planes etc and close every bridge in case someone decides to jump off it....just in case some idiot abuses them and causes themselves harm....now that would be a sorry state of affairs
As providers of any treatment to the general public we have a responsibility to ensure their safety is regulated and of course enforced...likewise however the consumer to has a duty to undertake these treatments in a responsible manner.
Singular salons have full record cards of their customers and most will restrict over exposure...however what the consumer is dong is signing up with two salons and swapping between them...these are the consumers that are exposing themselves to risk and giving this sector a bad name.
On the issue of the banning of sunbeds...well if this ever happens there will be many less than scrupulous individuals who are there just to cash in who will set up "underground" operations which will not be regulated and I dread to think what state of affairs we would be in then.
Off topic however relevant to it is that In the UK prostitution is illegal and therefore there is no regulation protecting those that choose(which is there human right) to seek them out and pay for sex.
In most European countries this activity is legalised and therefore regulated and offers a safer service to its customers and those that provide the service.....matter of fact
