Surely sculpting a French tip is harder than just plonking a well-less tip on the end?? I'm not very good at sculpting anyway lol need more practice :)

If your using a White tip and clear over then yes this is quicker but to be honest these only really suit and look good on clients with already nice nail beds, with sculpting esp with opaque powders every nail looks like a good nail :) xx

Yep sculpt, I found it tricky to start but i did as geeg says, if someone needs a repair sculpt it. I found clients were put off to start with me not putting on a tip, didn't trust the product alone, This way by repairing the odd nail with the sculpt clients then trusted the product for the new sets.

I think it depends on the design but very valid points. I only ever use gel on myself so maybe that's why I find tipping easier as gel isn't as strong as l&p? I agree with repairs though does make much more sense to sculpt

There are gels that are as strong as l&p, you must use one that suit the needs of the client, builders are great for building up a good nail, apex placement provides the strength the enhancments needs.

Sculpting for me! I used to use tips all the time in Spain. When I return to the UK and started in a salon here, I have been sculpting from day one. Even when I do mobile work, I still sculpt.

I did some tips around the christmas period in one of our other beauty salons as the girls there said it was quicker, and we needed to get through everyone as quick as possible. (Baaaah I hate that rushed feeling and so do the clients). Anyway, I took longer to do the tips than I did to do a set of sculpted nails!

Sculpting is for me all the time now. Love it. :)

Yes, there are gels that are equally strong as L&P.
But the strength of the products relies on different factors; so while both are strong, they are strong in a different way.
One relies upon it's flexibility under pressure.
The other relies upon it's 'hardness'

I was told that tips are harsher om your nails is nails can't breath / and damage the nail plate - where's gel sculpture is kinder to your nail and improves strength and length whist the sculpture is on . Surely there is no competition as the best for the nails Is always paramount !!

What a shame, Sally, that you were given totally false information re nail products as well as the physiology of the natural nail.

1. No ones nails breathe nor do they need to and all products have varying amounts of porosity so there is absolutely no possibility of damage from the wearing of nail enhancements of any kind.

2. It is not harsh to use tips to extend the natural nails.

3. Bad nail techs using harsh techniques do the most damage to nails and after them come the clients who do most of the restof the damge we see by picking and puylling the product off the plate.

4. gel is not kinder to nails than any other product. All products including gels are from the acrylic family.

It seems that some companies who are unable to sell their product on the real merits of the product have to do it with false marketing and fear marketing to get people to buy what they have.

5. You are right that there should not be any competition between systems. They all do a job in different ways.
