I think what mainly upsets the apple cart is when we have an influx of trolls, and the mods can spot em a mile off (bless em).:green:

I think the mods are very much up to the job. They have a huge difficult and time consuming job to do and I take my hat off to them.

Lets show our appreciation for the mods x:hug:

I hate the term police the site...I don't see it like that...prefer cleaning lady...

I think there are instances where a hair...skin...mod would come in handy...

Hey Colin...are you putting your name up for any future mod positions....???

ooooh I despreatly need a cleaner..are you free next Wednesday :lol:

In so far as aspirations of being a mod myself ..well erm...

1) Dont see that as a question ever being asked of me:eek:

2) not on your life..couldnt put up with the c**p you guy's do.:lol:

It would be good for the thread if we could refrain from "oh arent the Mod's wonderfull."!.."they do it all for love and dont get paid you know"..etc.etc..

The topic is one not about the specific skill and commitment levels of our existing mod's but mearly one about the future diverse nature of topics which will ubdoubatbly present themselves and the possible levels of understanding that future moderation may require??...

The secondary issue is that if there were say a Hair or other qualified Mod other than nails specific would that encourage those areas to grow??

So lets Put away the pistols and look at the topic itself as a good debate can be had.

By the way what is the first prize for the competition and do I have to travel far to get it :lol:

Nobody, as far as can see has a pistol out

We all just seem to like it as it is.

**It would be good for the thread if we could refrain from "oh arent the Mod's wonderfull."!.."they do it all for love and dont get paid you know"..etc.etc..but they are wonderful, what else should we be saying about them !!!!!!*The topic is one not about the specific skill and commitment levels of our existing mod's but mearly one about the future diverse nature of topics which will ubdoubatbly present themselves and the possible levels of understanding that future moderation may require??...not wanting to cause trouble at all, but surely that is for the mods and sam to contemplate if the need arises*The secondary issue is that if there were say a Hair or other qualified Mod other than nails specific would that encourage those areas to grow??if there is only a small percentage of hair geeks then even if the is a hair geek mod...how would that grow that specific area ????*So lets Put away the pistols and look at the topic itself as a good debate can be had.no pistols...debating is what we are doing By the way what is the first prize for the competition and do I have to travel far to get it :lol:
*is the thread pointing out that some people feel that we do need mods who are experts in every field of the site, if that was the case then surely we would have a techy mod, l&p mod, gel mod, fibreglass mod, manicure and pedicure mod, hair mod, waxing mod, spray tan mod, chit chat mod, blog mod,
or is stating that each sub forum needs an expert mod specific to that forum, because somewhere on the site its being picked up as lacking ????????????????confused in a way

In so far as aspirations of being a mod myself ..well erm...

not in the near future, we've got enough mods to cope with everything at the moment.

2) not on your life..couldnt put up with the c**p you guy's do.:lol:
got that right!!!

By the way what is the first prize for the competition and do I have to travel far to get it :lol:
The mod who's offering the prize lives in Valencia (me), flights are cheap but accommodation isn't LMAO
The way I see it is this... if you think we need more mods for specific forums then the person to direct your comments to is Sam (the administrator and owner of the site) and not to ask the whole site whether they think the current mods are up to the job.

At the end of the day, if you don't like the way the site is run then you have two choices, either stay and put up with it the way it is or go and make your own site... that's in no way meant as a personal attack, more of an observation... if it ain't broke why try to fix it??? The site runs perfectly well the way it is, I see no reason to change it, unless of course you have other reasons for additions to the mod squad?!?

Why is that?? I don't like to lie.

The topic is one not about the specific skill and commitment levels of our existing mod's but mearly one about the future diverse nature of topics which will ubdoubatbly present themselves and the possible levels of understanding that future moderation may require??...

We have geeks on here who are qualified and experienced in numerous things and give fabulous advice....it doesn't mean you have to be a mod to share your knowledge mate. THAT is what makes you a sincere geek IMO.:)

The secondary issue is that if there were say a Hair or other qualified Mod other than nails specific would that encourage those areas to grow??

Why? What difference would it make?

So lets Put away the pistols and look at the topic itself as a good debate can be had.

No pistols here hun. But don't really understand the nature of the thread. As someone very close to the site says you must ask yourself first and foremost why the thread has been posted and remember that although you may not always get recognition for advice given it is always there for future reference for all geeks.
Like has already been said....Sass is a beauty geek as well as a nail geek.

By the way what is the first prize for the competition and do I have to travel far to get it :lol:

What competition??

Hmmmm ok so I shall refrain from "oh arent the mods wonderful" (even tho they are!!)

I think this has already been said, but the way I see it, the mods make sure the site runs smoothly, nobody misbehaves (so to speak) or abuses the site. As its been well put policing or cleaning (I prefer policing but I am a sucker for uniform!!! lmao)

So the mods look after the site but we must not forget the hundreds upon hundreds (and growing at a tremendous rate) of geeks who make this site what it is, yup we are all on it as professional on one thing or another or even all areas. We all have valuable experience to offer from many different points of view, thats what is so fabulous about this site!!

I think this has already been said but what is an expert anyway?

How would you define a hair mod (a hairdresser may not be an expert in every area of hairdressing, perhaps they would be a cutting expert but not so experienced in colour techniques or extensions??) and once you had whos to say they would want to give up free time precious time to moderate? And who is to say that cos they are an expert in thier area it would make them a good mod anyway??? They may be full of knowledge but not have a fantastic way with words, or be clueless to what troll is (I have no idea either! lol)

Hence the mods are kind lovely well functioning moderators, and I believe there is an old saying, if it aint broke dont fix it!!!

:idea:It may just be worthwhile reminding the initial comment posted:idea:

"Please remember this is a Thought Provoking Thread topic and not a APT(argument prevoking Thread) neither is this my opinion ,nor meant as a contentious issue or directed at any singular individuals or the site as a whole...but mearly one for TPW....so lets see if we can discuss as adults."

Lets see if we can do it

we are discussing this as adults...when a debate is to be had...both sides of the debate need to take what they dont want to hear on the chin!!!!
as this is a thought provoking thread...its done just that surely...provoked thought :)... maybe thoughts not wanting to be provoked eh
maybe people are suspicious..threads are started when one sits and thinks about a certain topic .....not plucked one out of thin air.....
now back to the DEBATE

I answered that on my first reply.

I believe it is being discussed thus so.

Lets see if we can do it
I really don't see the reason behind this thread, as I don't with similar threads we've had like it in the past!!!

What's the real reason for it?
Are you looking for Sam to appoint a tanning geek as a moderator?
If so then why?

Do you not feel that your current moderators are up to the job of moderating the site?

I'm totally confused as to the true direction of this thread!

I believe there is an old saying, if it aint broke dont fix it!!!

mmmm I wonder if those same words were said just before the site was expanded to include all the new additions of possible topics we can and more importantly others that may need assistance can now all enjoy

If you realy take a mo to think about this posting ...it actually is a very posative one

Now you appear to be getting off topic chuck, we were not discussing site expansion in general we were discussing the idea of adding forum specific mods.
If you realy take a mo to think about this posting ...it actually is a very posative one

Perhaps you ought to explain why as I am getting the feeling nobody else is seeing this!!

i am so not getting it either...sorry colin just dont know where this has come from or what its about really ..other than saying that you feel mods are needed with specific expertise in all areas of the site , or the thread wouldnt have been started

The initial posting I think clarifies any possible illusions on agenda's or dissatisfactions , deviouse motives bla bla bla...

Focus the mind on the posted question and posative nature of it and a good TPT may just follow.

The posted question is also not directed at Mods but at geeks..particulary those that may have opinion on the subject matter.

Collin...trust you to start a thread like this !!!

Now,we have enough mod's to do the job they are doing...if we did not,Sam would oppoint another one. This site is run professionally and we have the administar, mods and us that keep it like that !!....If a mod left another one would replace them. This site has been running awhile and its getting stronger and stronger which is what we need !! :green:

Perhaps you ought to explain why as I am getting the feeling nobody else is seeing this!!

I do think "chuck" that a re read of the posted question may be of some assistance to your understanding of the subject matter

I don't see what the positive side is.
I'm not a mod but I certainly think my opinion matters.
No-one thinks there's a devious motive I just don't understand the need for more mods who for example are trained nipple piercers etc...
If you have a question you post a thread and usually get some really good advice from someone who knows their stuff and is glad to help you. And you are grateful.
That is the whole point of the site.
Isn't it??

i have re- read and still not getting why you are not satisfied with the answers we have given as individuals...and keep referring geeks back to your thread......
if we are not getting it.........we are not getting it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
or shall we just give answers that you want to hear....if so i will gladly pacify....:)

I do think "chuck" that a re read of the posted question may be of some assistance to your understanding of the subject matter
You asked 2 questions in your original post...

Would it be benifical if there was at least one Mod with a backround reflective of each category type?
No, I don't see the benefit.

In other words if you took a traffic Policeman off the high streets of Tokyo city and stuck him on Oxford Street in London to direct the traffic ...would he be as effective as a Bobby???
As per my first reply to this point... directing traffic is directing traffic regardless of the country and so on and so on...
Could you please explain the benefit of having a moderator for each specific forum or specific treatment?
