Hi everyone I'm new here and I'm after some advice

I've been a beauty therapist for 12 years and now I'm wanting to get into teaching. I have seen a qualification called VTCT (vocational training charitable trust) I can pay online and have 1 year to complete the qualification. Its a Level 3 award in education and training. My question - is this qualification enough to teach in college? and is it worth doing? it says it now replaces PTLLS (preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector) which is what most colleges asks for as a requirement for tutor jobs. The fact I can do it online from home and work around my 2 children is great for me. It says its a recognised teaching qualification!

thanks for reading
Tara :)

VTCT is the name of the exam board, just like City & Guilds. (Your original qualification was likely to have been awarded by City & Guilds if it was more than 10 years ago.) Nowadays, colleges tend to offer one or the other. Either is fine and standards and course content are comparable.

Are you looking to work in a college or just teach your own specialist short courses?

Be aware that many Colleges require their teaching staff to have completed a PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification that you have to take via University. Your VTCT qualification can be a stepping stone towards this.
