hi geeks! I done a ladies gel nails 2 nights ago (have been doing them for about 4 months now) with no problems, this lady has just contacted me on, she is on holiday and advised that after 30 minutes in the sun her nails have gone really funny - she said she hasn't yet put sunscreen on, can anyone advise? It's very strange - doesn't look like it has chipped it looks like it's melting off!!

Thank you

That would be the pink pigment breaking down due to sunlight and chlorine, and the combination of the too are lethal for pretty pink nails. They basicaly get bleached!
There are some colours from various brands extremely prone to this, as the pigment used is very unstable and will unfortunately cause the colour to fade.

It seems to me they are losing their colour, not melting off. I know such thing can happen in just regular sunshine with a couple of colours (there is a link somewhere here discussing this). Yours might be just one of those cases. What colour did you use if I may ask?

She is in extreme heat , and I'm guessing by the pool.

Chlorine is a bleach and it is intensifyed by the sun, Her nails aren't melting, her colour has just completely faded. This is very common with neon / bright pinks. Even if she is not by the pool intense sunlight can cause this too.

Thanks ladies this wasn't covered in my contraindications and I wouldn't have advised to have gone for such a pale colour if I would have known!

I use gellux but some glitter bits on top with a top coat - what a pain, this proper knocks your confidence!!! X

Maybe contact Salon System to seee if they have any advice or tips regarding Gellux colours fading?

I always give my clients specific holiday aftercare advice......when exposed to chlorine, hot sun, sun screen or insect repellant containing DEET they need to either rinse the hands or wipe over with a baby wipe and apply oil to protect the nails. I also advice that some pinks are prone to fading. I either steer them towards another colour or applying a glitter or double top coat seems to help prevent it.

I always supply my client with calcure polish it is a uv protector polish, if they don't buy one then I won't be liable for things like this happening.

I worked in beach hotel for years and even your nail polishes like Essie was the worst!! Your polish goes dull and the colour goes in the sea water and beach sand. No matter what I did.

Hiya

I have use Gellux and can't that I've ever had this issue. What colour was it and what glitter did you use?

Hi there!

I used beach party - feel the vibe collection?

The glitter is the pots of glitter that you can get from a craft shop but I mixed in with the top coat....

I'm thinking of doing my own nails that colour just to see what happens over the next few weeks!!

The brand I use had 2 colours that faded until they were clear. It didn't have to be extreme sunlight either. Thankfully they are discontinued. I usually steer my clients away from bright pinks when they're going on holiday for this reason X
