hi i have a quick question, i was at a specialist waxing class, for Brazilian waxing last Sunday and i was told you cant use talc any more when waxing!

does any one know any thing about this???

Did they say 'you can't' or that they don't advise it?

I haven't used talc for years. Use oil. xx

Could you use cornflour instead?!!!

This might answer Kim's q too...

Cornflour is what we're being taught to use at college :)green:), the reason we were told is this:
The powder molecules in talc are finer & more of a problem for the breathing/respitory system
whereas cornflor is heavier & less of a prob...

*shrug*

I'm just happy to go along with it till I'm qualified & can choose to use oil instead.
:)

yes thats so true, how many people use talc on babys??

its just one more thing to worry about, but what do you do when a client asks about this???

Well, I love a good debate and I have to say until it is against the law or any new policy written , I shall be using talc, being a sugarer, I have to.

I feel there will always be something telling us about something that is bad for us.

I just had to let you all read this, some of you probably have seen it do the rounds...
If you were born in the 50’s, 60’s or 70’s, please read on………..

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us and lived in houses made of asbestos. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese, raw egg products, loads of bacon and processed meat, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes or cervical cancer.

Then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright coloured lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets or shoes, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

Take away food was limited to fish and chips, no pizza shops, McDonalds , KFC, Subway or Nandos.

Even though all the shops closed at 6.00pm and didn't open on the weekends, somehow we didn't starve to death!

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We could collect old drink bottles and cash them in at the corner store and buy Toffees, Gobstoppers, Bubble Gum and some bangers to blow up frogs with.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soft drinks with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because......

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of old prams and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. We built tree houses and dens and played in river beds with matchbox cars.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo Wii , X-boxes, no video games at all, no 999 channels on SKY ,
no video/dvd films,
no mobile phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no Lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

You could only buy Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns at Easter time...

We were given air guns and catapults for our 10th birthdays,

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!

RUGBY and CRICKET had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! Getting into the team was based on MERIT

Our teachers used to hit us with canes and gym shoes and bully's always ruled the playground at school.

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL !

that is so true suger...

look back over the years, there have been scares on almost every thing we eat, from eggs to chickens, beef to bacon, water, bread, don't know if lamb has been on the list, but what a list......

but like you said talc is only been used once every 4 to 6 weeks so it cant do much harm....

thanks of all the coments... its been really interesting....

I was told by my health and saftey exec that i couldn't use it because it get inhaled and can cause breathing difficulties. She also told me if she visited me again and i was using it she would fine me!

For goodness sake the world has gone mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd better not do any more washing in case i inhale the powder. I'd better not use shake and vac either. Best not spray any air freshner or do any polishing-sounds good to me-lol
There are more toxic things to inhale in a hair salon-are they gonna get us to issue gas masks to the clients next!!!!!

Oh my Goodness, what.........I am beside myself. I sincerely hope youcan get to the bottom of this, maybe Habia for example, not sure who exactly would answer this, but getting a fine!!!!..........that does not sit right with me. I am sure others will agree. This is just not cricket!!

I was thinking it was only a matter of time before we couldn't use it any more. It has a cancer risk associated with it.
I stopped using it last year and find the pre wax oil much better to use xxx

Wow...talking of cancer risks nearly choaked on my slice of burnt toast reading this:eek:..still better dying from choking than the cancer risk of burnt toast.:lol:

How crazy is the world comming to

Ha ha Collin you do make me laugh
Could be a good thing for you as you will be selling more oil :) You better stack up  xxx

Seriously though, these studies drive me mad. Somebody does a study, comes to a grossly miscalculated outcome, then puts the fear of god into consumers.[/QUOTE]

I couldn't agree more

They're still training people at my local college to use talc. I think its only a cancer risk if its inhaled!!

Well, I would never change a baby's nappy without throwing on some good old fashioned Johnsons Baby talc .

I really do think this is a world gone potty ! Everything nowadays is just so darned PC or risky to Health & Safety Laws. For goodness sake! I went to M&S coffee shop and the staff refused to give me my latte on a saucer as they have always done for fear the tall latte cup would slip on the saucer and spill hot coffe over someone ....... new health & safety laws . PULLEEEEZE!

I totally agree about the world going PC mad.

The reason that I stopped using talc years ago was simply because I couldn't stand the mess and it did make me cough a bit.

I don't actually believe any stories of this and that giving you cancer. I have lost friends to lung cancer who never smoked and I believe that when your number's up, your number's up. It's all mapped out for us.

Back to the talc, if it works for you.....go for it. We should all be working the way that suits us. xxx

The only wax on the market that should be using talc underneath is gigi strip wax but this is not your normal everyday talc it is specially formualted without the moisturisers which doesnt create the dust effect and only a very fine sprinking should be used and the reason it is used is to stop grazing and adhersion of wax to the skin.

Oil is used on some of the new third generation waxes (eg berins, lycon, perron rigot, harley) this is to stop adhersion of the wax to the skin to enable you to go over the area more than once. However caron because it is the latest technology available on the market today, you do not have to use any oil or talc but are still able to go over the area 3-4 times and make the skin soft to the touch and save you money as you dont have to buy extra talc or oil as part of your waxing kit.

Anyway, if talc is so dangerous why is it still used in so many beauty products - its the second highest ingredient in Dermalogica's Daily Microexfoliant, so it can't be that bad surely?!

Well up until recently there were no warnings on cigarettes and you can still smoke them and damage your health and you can still drink and damage your health. But regardless of this why use talc when oil works better. Plus it's the application of talc to underarms that may be the concern plus inhalation so not a problem in a facial products where it is no longer in the powder form.

Actually, you can use oil under Gigi strip wax, I have been using it for years. Until I switched to Berins.

Can the oil be used under warm wax or is it just hot wax that this method works for?
xx
