Hello [emoji112]

Can anyone tell me if an exact same domain owned by someone in America (as.com) and mine (but with .co.uk), will cause me any problems online with prospective searches? For example, will their .com always show up (and everything associated with it as it currently does) before my .co.uk results?? I’m concerned I may not get found online because of the American domain even though it just appears to be another soletrader working from home.

Hiya. A lot more goes into rank rather than just the domain name so I wouldn't worry :)
Your website, if built properly, will easily take care of this.

Technically you're more likely to show up on UK results as it's a .co.uk domain.

This is all only applicable if someone searched your exact business name :)

Thanks for that. Can I ask then, if someone just searched for the name of my business without putting the .co.uk in the search bar, would the .com come out on top? When I search on the internet I seldom put the extension in unless I’m met with overseas options and even then I just tap in uk (not .co.uk). I’m beginning to think I need to purchase every domain out there!

If someone just typed in your business name, chances are the .co.uk will show up first on Google in probably 90% of cases I'd imagine. As I say, the site being structured right will help with any doubt in Google's eyes.

You should always purchase as many domains as possible (within reason) to protect your brand. .co.uk, .com, .org at a push. Think of things like if you bought yourbrand.co.uk you may want to see if you can buy (just to keep) yourbranduk.co.uk for example. Domains are so cheap it's worth grabbing any logical ones without going over the top :)
