My daughter had weekenders last Friday night to go out because she is not allowed them at college. That was just tips blended and polished, she went to work Saturday morning in our local shop using the till etc and they were still going strong on Monday morning.

See, I am getting such a mixed bag of answers on this! lol
Shall I jus do the tips, blend and enamel? Or shall I put the thin layer over?
I was originally going to tip, blend, enamel.
I think my 1st lady is quite rough with her nails as I did some enhancements on myself a month ago and they are still ok. Even with my line of day work climbing ladders, sanding and painting. So, maybe it was her being rough and not me at all?
::shrug:: So not knowing what way to do these still!! lol

I wouldnt worry about it tbh, they are not made to last, you could give them a thin layer of L&P to give them a bit of strength, but they definately are not made to last through sanding, etc.
I think i'd go for the thin layer of L&P just to be on the safe side! xx

Sorry, my last one sounded confussing.
I mean't I did a set of full enhancements on my nails about a month ago as I had never done my own and never had enhancements. I felt I needed to do this so I could experience what I am 'doing' to others. I felt unable to do this as I am a full time decorator at the moment and really didn't feel they would last. However, they have and are doing really well!
I used this as an example to the lady who was my model for my course as she was really good with her full enhancements to begin with, but then kept telling me they were pinging off. I know I am getting better and I have 2 other regular clients at the moment who have full enhancements and neither one of them have experienced this problem. So, I was trying to say, maybe my lady is rough with her hands in general and this is why the weekenders didn't last long with her at all.

If you are that worried about your brides nails then why not just invest in a bottle of resin that will cost you less than £5. You could apply your resin and then dip the nail in your powder apply another coat of resin then activate it. Lightly buff over the nail and then bring to a high shine.

I have never used the resin so wouldn't know where to start. Think i will go with the plan of a thin L&P. Blimey, they only for one day and I know I can do that without worrying.
Thanks everyone for your help on this one xxxxxxxxxxx

You could try overlaying with a few layers of brush on resin, they'll be stronger this way than just blended tips and polish and won't take that much longer to do and will also soak off in a heartbeat.

Edit...oh dear, I didn't read page 2!....Brush on resin, use it just like polish, adds a bit more strength.....sometimes referred to as tips and resin....used quite frequently in session work.

Thanks Cathy. MAybe if I get asked for this more I will get the resin but for now I think I will do the thin L&P layer. Brilliant help from everyone as ever xxxxx

thats not how i do my weekenders....i learnt from my first day of training when i had to tip and blend 1 hand and the next day i had to overlay them...i broke 3 that night !!...there is no strength at all in tips alone.

i usually paint a coat of gel or a couple of coats of resin over.

But in all honesty, It would only take me about 20 mins longer to apply the gel properly and finish them!!

So i try and steer clear of 'weekenders'.

yup... i agree. By the time you have prepped...tipped...blended and done a layer of product you are doing a near enough full set. I had a client ..(bride) who wanted nails just for the 1 day...then wanted to be able to soak them off afterwards...she said she was going to use stick on's from boots but had heard they were bad for nails...i told her that they are perfect for a one off and the only reason they are bad is cos of how people put them on and take them off...and that some people wear them all the time....they are meant as a now and then thing.

so she arrived with her own set of stick ons and i applied them for her...tayloring them to fit and be of a nice length....she was thrilled...i was quids in as it took 30 mins max and i charged her £15..............and she was very very good and came to me to soak them off for her...(another £5)....so to be honest if i had someone wanting nails for a day i would do the same again. x

tbh honest for the sake of one day i think im with you on this one. as long as they are applied (ie proper prep) and removed properly. x

was this just with the french look sets you get from places like Boots or Superdrug?
I might have a look tomorrow and throw this up as an option as she really only wants them for the one day.

If you did a thin layer of l&p though she may realise that actually she loves them and doesn't want to be without them in which case you have gained a regular client? Next time you see her you can build up the nail a little, I wouldn't leave it to long before maintenance if you have only done a thin layer of l&p

OHHHHHHHH I am so confussed with this thread now! lol. So many options.
She is coming on Friday. I am not going to purchase the Boots nails and I really feel this is not for me and not creating the right business image I want to develop.
I am going to have a consultation with her and see how she feels about:

1 - Full Spa Manicure and Polish
2 - Whether to go for the original of weekenders with the thin layer of L & P.

I feel it more professional to be able to offer these options and hopefully gain more work from it as it's a professional choice and not the stick on's as everyone has had a 'go' at this.

Once again, thanks to everyone who has helped with this.

i completely agree with you on the looking professional thing...but for me personally and the fact that i don't get much call for weekender's at all, i just cant see the point in all that tipping and blending and applying product when for another 10 mins you could have done a full set.....and they are going to expect them to be cheaper than a full set as they are weekenders....just makes no sense to me.

Sorry hun, I know this is getting confusing but I agree. I'd do a full set, personally. If she doesn't want to keep them then fair enough; just soak them off. You'd have to do this anyway with a thin layer on. At least this will give her and you peace of mind that they will last the day. And who knows, you could end up with a regular client.

i think you should either:

a) do a full set
b) get some stick-ons and use them as weekenders.

Bearing in mind that prep plays a major part time-wise... a thin layer of l+p will take almost just as long as applying a full blown set..

Ok,just to let you all know....
After all this I gave her a full Spa Manicure & French and a Pedicure.
Her nails weren't as bad as she thought and when I had finished they looked fab! She was so pleased!!
Thanks everyone for your time and helpful info on this one. xxx
