Hi all, I have just finished my PTLLS tutor training course (phew!) and am busy writing my own course material for nails and beauty. I have been researching which professional body to get them accredited with but I am unsure who to use.

The top two are Babtac and Beauty Guild...Babtac is the most expensive but they have an excellent reputation, however, Beauty Guild seem really popular amongst nail techs and have more perks (I'm currently insured with them).

Are there any tutors out there who have been through this and can offer any advice?

Or, if you were going to train as a nail tech, who would you prefer to be insured with?

Thanks in advance
xx

Hi there I am in exactly the same position as you, just finished PTLLS and designing my own course material, would love to know how you're getting on and what strategy you are taking with it all as it is quite a lengthy process isn't it, making sure not forget anything!

I am going to get accredited with the guild, it is who I did PTLLS through and was highly recommended by the training centre too. Hope that helps

Hi there, I am an accredited training provider with ABT and I have to say they have been brilliant! Much cheaper and so far I can't see any difference xxx

hiya,

How did you go about getting accredited with ABT? I've just had a look on their website but can't see any details on it, how much is it if you don't mind me asking?

do you also mind if I ask what subjects you got accredited in to teach?

thanks x

Hi sorry for the delay. I phoned ABT directly and they put me through to their accreditation department. A lady called Tracey Board helped me. She was so so lovely! Helped me every step of the way. Accreditation was just under £300 but this was for unlimited courses. I'm a full beauty therapist so I pretty much have every course accredited now from nails to tanning to make up xxx

Thats considerably cheaper than Beauty Guild!! But does ABT carry any weight in the beauty world? I kinda liked the prestige of saying my courses are accredited by Babtac or the Guild (not meaning to put ABT down at all).

Do prospective students have a preference about who they can get insurance with?

therelaxationde - thanks for your reply. I was so relieved to have finished all the PTLLS essays, they went on forever! Now I'm up to my eyes with course writing, I feel exhausted.
I also have no idea what the course material should entail. I dug out my nail extension manual from 10 years ago (thank goodness I kept it) and it was 10 pages long with absolutely no info on infills/maintenance! How bad is that. I'm just writing it to the standard I would like if I was a student I guess.
How are you getting on? How did you find the training course?

I feel a bit mean about what I said about ABT in my earlier post, it came across a little harsh. I have to say, I'm warming more to ABT, makes far more financial sense.

I felt the same in regards to what would my students want but if I am honest every single student is happy with their qualification as long as it is recognised which ABT is. Also with ABT there is no renewal fee for accreditation unlike the guild :)

Just a quick note to let you know ladies we have a very established Nail & Beauty Co (over 10yrs) and are a c&g centre we have 4 satalite centres are are looking for other satalite centres if anyone is interested feel free to message me -

chrogers - thanks so much for the ABT info.
Do you wind me asking what the market is like for training at the moment in your area? I keep being told that I've missed the boat and there are too many training facilities now. Do you agree? Would you be able to tell me how busy you are at present? I'd really appreciate your input. I'm worried its such a huge time/money investment if it's just not that viable any more?
Thanks xx

hiya,

I'm hoping there is still a market in it, I hadn't heard there wasn't to be fair so would be interested in any reposnces......

That said I haven't even started pushing mine yet only mentioned in on the likes of here, twitter, facebook, word of mouth etc and I already have around 8 people interested in booking a course, which don't get me wrong I know isn't huge but thats come from me just telling people what I am in the process of doing so hopefully I can capitalise from that
xx

I think with training you are always going to have good times and bad times with training. January - April are usually quite quiet and then may to November I go mad. Again every year is different. Having said that I also train for a number of colleges so they help to keep things ticking :) plus I work for a local college as a lecturer so for me training is an added extra. Feel free to ask me anything else x

Thats really interesting...it sounds like you are more qualified than PTLLS?

I've also just found out something that I think is really important - if I train a client/student in nails and they are already insured with say Babtac or Beauty Guild for other beauty services they are qualified in, if my courses are accredited with ABT, Beauty Guild or Babtac won't insure them. I didn't know that. I just got off the phone with Beauty Guild and they said they will only insure courses that are accredited by them or it is a recognised brand. So potentially a student would need two insurance policies if they already have a policy in place with another company.
Gosh, this is all so confusing :(

Tell me about it! It is very confusing! Again like you say the guild and ABT will only insure their own certificates. I believe it is the same with all the insurance companies unless it's an NVQ qualification.

Yes I am more qualified than a PTTLS I am just completing my PGCE :)

Hi @Squeakydee

Hope you don't mind us replying to your thread. It's fab to know that you are looking to get your courses accredited, it really is the best way to give your courses the 'stamp of approval' and can help students feel more confident about getting insured for your course after completion.

Just to clarify, BABTAC insure for many courses, as long as they're accredited by a reputable company and subject to prerequisites. We would know that the course has had quality control.

To find out more about our accreditation process or to simply get some more help with any accreditation queries visit Accredited short courses from BABTAC for training or email Laura - [email protected].

Whichever accreditation route you go through, we wish you the best of luck!

Kindest Regards
The BABTAC team
