GOOD ONE FIONA!

i've hear fab things about emu oil too.

Amb x

Good idea Fiona.

I don't mean to sound bossy :o ,i have just been there so i have one last thing to say, then I'll shut up :D

Can i recommend cotton gloves as opposed to plastic, because plastic makes you sweat and with open sore it stings as the sweat is salty,it therefore aggravates and itches, then your vicious circle forms hth's x

Zip ........

Jac, I sometimes get a patch of dry skin exactly the same place on the palm as you - not anywhere as bad though. After Carls post about Emu Oil, I thought I would try it and it does help. I apply it then put my hands in plastic gloves for half an hour while watching Eastenders or whatever.

Bio Oil also seems to have a great rep.

If what Becki suggests doesnt suit then maybe try the others.
fi have you a link for the emu oil mate:)

my mums knuckles are similar to yours, really dry and crack easy. she uses norweigen formula hand cream, that works a treat, she found a lot of creams actually made it worse - not sure what to recommend for your palms though. xx

Hi jac tbh the pics resemble what my hands was like a couple of years ago it was contact dermititus and stress aggrevated it!! The doc should send you for a skin allergy test as it`ll be something in the foods that you eat and the same thing can be in different lotions and potions that your using. Ask the doc to refer you to a dermatologist and they`ll prob recomend the tests. I`d not use too much of the steroid creams tho cos they thin your skin.
Bearing all this in mind i`m not a doc!! But its worth a try and all i use now is e45 cream when mine flares up. hth:hug:

thanks everone for your reply's I am going to give the emu oil a try to start with, I had a look at the link and placed an order, if it improves it I will post some pics.

Oh Jac - you poor thing..  xxx

I also have a similar problem, but not so pronounced as your is.
I have teh DIPROBASE cream and also DERMOL cream, also steroid creams & ointment works ok on my cracked knuckles.

The dermol sinks in really quick too, diprobase is thicker and takes awhile longer to sink in.

Every night for the past month I've got myself position into sleep position in bed and drenched my hands in either dermol or diprobase (i have both pump bottles permanently at the side of my bed) and i've just held my hands out of bed until they've soaked in.
It's worked ok for me and the problem went away almost completely, but it's on it's way back now as I've slipped out of my routine.

I have also started wearing purple nitrile gloves on my hand I hold my brush as I've found my problem is now on the fingertip of my index finger.

I'd be interesd to know how you get on with the emu oil.

hi jac, have you tried aqueous cream its very good, i had horrendous contact dermatitis a time ago and used that it worked a treat and its dead cheap as well also someone i know saw a dermatologist privately as her skin was really bad and he/she recommended it
,hope you get sorted out

Hi Jac,
I believe a good way to heal the skin can be found in diet. Eating foods/seeds & stuff that are rich in oils does help the skin quite a bit, oiling you from the inside out.
Definately choose the simplest & kindest creams & oils you can, NO perfumed creams!
Try a little treatment like:
slapping loads of olive oil (it is actually a lovely moisturising oil!)on your hands & wearing some cotton gloves, wear for a couple of hours or even over night.
You could even add:
one drop of lavender oil to 2 tablespoons of olive oil (or evening primrose or vitamin E & rub it into your hands a couple of times a day, the lavendar will soothe your soreness & work it's gentle anti-septic magic, and help with the healing process. I love this stuff!
Good Luck with it

If the steriods can get it under control Aveeno and Dermol 500 are particularly effective emollients doctor can prescribe both. The trick unfortunately is to bandage your hands nightly to stop you scratching your skin without realising.
hth's

My mum-in-law suffers with the same thing on her palms. She like you has only every been prescribed steroids and doesn't like to use them long term. She uses Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream. It's for extremely dry skin, whiffs a bit iffy but seems to do the job. Hope you find something soothing soon.

awww poor jac!
sorry i cant help , but i hope it goes away matexxxx

It looks like some kind of dermatitis to me. You should ask your doctor to refer you to a dermatologist as they can try and find the root cause of the problem. If you go to a chemist and speak to the pharmacist, he (or she) should be able to recommend something for you.

I would seek out a diagnosis from a specialist. I think the idea of increasing your EFAs in your diet would be a good one. Try 2000 mg Evening Primrose Oil or borage oil. It will take some time before all your cells are saturated but it might offer some results. It also appears that your knuckles are inflamed. Are you haveing any stiffness in your hands or at any other joints in your body. The reason why I'm asking is there is a form of psorisis that 'causes' rhuemitoid arthritis. (pain and sweeling in the joints). It is worth investigating the cause.

I have also seen fungus on the ankles (friend- rugby player) and it was rather scaly. Once he got the right medication, it quickly cured up.

Good point! I had forgotten that, but it would make sense.

Forever Living Aloe Propolis Creme [051] - £12.96 : NATURAL ALTERNATIVE PRODUCTS
This stuff is amazing. I developed something that looked like that on my face a few years ago. It went across one of my eyebrows and all the hair fell out. My mum got some of this cream and not only did it clear up, but my hair grew back! I use it on everything now. I think it's magic! I hope that if you do give it a try, you love it too!

BTW - The description on the web link, IMO does this product no justice.

thanks for all the reply's I have my emu oil now so will give that a try first.:)
