Hi all :)

Just wondering if any of you are thinking of or planning to move abroad to find work? I'm qualifed beauty therapist, but can't find any work. There are NO jobs what so ever here in ireland. There too few jobs for the amount of people applying. I can't even get any other work to tide me over for a while cos there just aren't any. I don't have much experience since i qualified in beauty either which is another stumbling block, but i won't give up, as i can't get work here i have to review my options.

Ideally i would like to go abroad to work canada or something but anywhere really. I always wanted to travel a bit anyway so to work somewhere else and experience another part of the world is an attractive thought.
I'm moving to uk in the next few weeks to find work anyway and save some money to hopefully go abroad next year or in the not too distant future. I'l most likely be heading away on my own, as some friends are settled with kids, an others are in good jobs so won't want to leave, not that i can depend on other people to come with me, i know this is something i have to do on my own i realise that, but it is still quite daunting. I don't know where abouts to go exactly, as in cost of living an where there are jobs. Quite keen on canada not sure where abouts yet. The US also, though i hear its very difficult to get in there.

Is anyone else in a similar boat to me an thinking of going abroad for work? An if so where abouts? Or even any words of wisdom/advice would be much appreciated :)

Kerrie xoxo

I am desperately trying to recruit therapists with no success. Are you pricing yourself out? are you presenting yourslf as you need to? Do you interview well?

Its not much better here in UK, you could always try getting in at one of the big spas when you move here, they don't pay mega bucks but you'll get product training and a bag load of experience. Good luck x

Hiya, yeah I really think i do interview well. I'm a hard worker in everything i do an i try to get that across. Most of the time they tell me i'm a lovely girl but i just don't have the experience. It does get quite infuriating to be honest cos they go on about experience so much yet at the same time how can you get that if they wont give you a chance. But i havent had many interviews here at all. Thats the problem, over here for one job that comes up in say a salon about 50 local girls are applying for it. an thats only the small places, a spa thats recruiting get over 100 applicants and there's only a couple of jobs going. Its ridiculous. I trained in london where i grew up and moved here shortly after that so i had hoped i'd get something but couldnt believe how hard it was. My only option is to move now, but it mightn't be a bad thing.

Hiya, Ah Thanks. yeah i grew up there an friends have told me how things are there. I'm in no way expecting to walk into a job there but Compared to here there has to be more opportunity. I live in the country here an there just isnt any work around. an even the cities are the same. but they are way smaller than uk cities for a start. Hoping to go london an if i dont get into a spa, then i'l try makeup counters cos makeup is my passion too. If anything just to save an move on to another country.. :)

Actually thats a very good point. I had thought about austrailia as have a few cousins that have gone out there for work n travel. Is austrailia in recession?? or is it doing ok..? yeah i will look into it definatly, thanks for the tip! x

No we r not in recession - we don't get affected by the economic issues as much as we ever expect. The last big economic incident our beauty industry actually stayed on top of the profit makers list!!
Like I said if u jump on seek it will show you exactly how many beauty jobs are listed in the country - 713 was the count for today!

Thanks for getting back to me. Yeah i had a look on there. There really is alot of beauty jobs it seems. Money seems waay better than it is over this side of the world too. Alot are asking for experience though which is fine, but i dont have much as have only been doing a small bit of beauty treatments freelance for myself an even thats not alot. I think i'l go to uk as planned an get some experience somewhere hopefully in a spa. If i have to bang on every door to find a job i will!! lol. Need to gain some experience at least an then will plan to head off somewhere, an having looked at that website you gave me, Austrailia is definatly one place i will be seriously looking into..the sunny weather also helps lol. x

best of luck with it :) i hope your dedication pays off :)

Definitely try australia! I made the move a few years ago, i wasnt long qualified when i moved to melbourne, i only had a little experience like yourself and i had a job within a week of arriving! And as u seen for yourself the wages are at least double what we are getting in Ireland! I am back home but i really miss Australia! My advice to you is definitely try it! What have u got to lose? U will always have home to come back to! I wish u all the luck in the world, and hope that u have a great time wherever your travels may take you! Xx

I have a Beauti Salon in Bahrain in the Middle East, and am looking for a skilled nail tech who does both acrylic and gel and drill work. Its a European Salon, owned and run by me. (i am the Senior stylist) I need a fast, efficient and very friendly nail tech, preferably multi tasking who would like to experience a new culture, new country and who is open to new challenges. The market here is huge, however, most nail techs are Asian and are look and see skilled and lack the customer service and professional skills we value in Europe. My salon predominantly caters to Europeans therefore, I want someone outstanding can work manual and drill work and loves a great salon with a great atmosphere. I nee to build this side of my business, which is potentially huge. I also do spray tanning, hair hair extension, waxing, man per and all aspects of hair. Please inbox me if you are interested.
