What was your trainer's opinion? Did they give you any feedback?

Yeah I did get positive feedback about neatness of bonds, sections and colour match but on the day I think because the tutor thought I was getting on ok I didn't really get too much in the way of pointers whether that's because she thought I was doing fine or because the another learner was not a hairstylist and needed much more help. If I'm to be self critical I think the pre bonds stick out slightly but then I know that's because of the angle of my hands when rolling the bonds.
So really I'd just like to ask for your opinions as you've been doing this a lot longer than I. Like I said before I won't take offence at constructive criticism :)

I can't comment on micro rings, I trained to do them but gave up shortly after as I found them amateurish and couldn't get the same effect as hot melt fusion. Your bonded are very neat and you've worked out for yourself why they're sticking out, perhaps you could drop them a couple of milimetres to get a better angle and put less tension on the roots. Your trainer should've told you to do that, too much tension can lead to hair loss and tension spots. Good job though.

Could everyone see some of your work please? It seems you have considerable expertise, so everyone could learn so much I think if you would post some of your no doubt flawless work x

I don't claim to be perfect and my work isn't flawless, I constantly look to improve and regularly update my training and skills with reputable companies. The point of my original post was to highlight how all the false "aww gorgeous babes" comments are damaging our industry. There is some fab work on here but there are also a lot of horrendous monstrosities which I'd be ashamed to put my name to, and if you can't see that then your opinion, in my opinion, is absolutely useless. In other words, if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

6 MPs and some celeb hairdressers...and as the council has been operational for over 40 years...be astounded if this happens inside the next 5 years, if not 10.

Just because The Hair Council have been around for nearly 50 years doesn't mean they've been pushing for regulation for all that time. You guess regulation could come in in 5 or 10 years, I could guess 2 or 3 years but we'd both just be guessing.

I assume you aren't a qualified hairdresser?

Thank you, I'll drop them down a couple of millimetres and make sure the clients chair is positioned lower to get a better angle. I do agree with what you said about micro rings though I find them quite bulky and I personally wouldn't want them. The mini locks looks interesting though so I will be trying them out on models, if I like them then I will offer those instead of the bulky micro rings

How do you all blend extensions?

I always cut like a haircut. So the shortest layers of clients natural hair are completely blended to the length.

Lots of the pics I see are "blended" by trimming the length and layering the front of the hairline. What about the rest?

You shouldn't cut extensions the same as normal hair. Especially not the layers, makes it sit awful! You slice down from the clients shortest layer (not cutting the clients natural hair) x

No I never cut the natural hair when I cut them. But I mean it sits like a hair cut lots of layers etc.

Lots of extensions seem to just have the length cut. So if you look at the pics closely you can see where the clients natural hair ends and extensions start. Some pics remind me of clients asking for "one layer".

I agree, I don't think these clients are viable candidates for pre bonded or microrings unless the extensionist is capable of cutting layers into the hair extensions. Even qualified hairdressers can struggle with cutting extensions as the cutting technique is completely different to cutting natural hair.

Has anyone extended a side fringe? I'm trying to grow mine and it's taking ages! Anyone got any pics? X

Im from beauty and I know its cheeky popping in but I stalk this thread as I am looking to get extensions. I know I dont want them so they look thin or strandy at the bottom or give me bald patches. ..what should I look for in an extensionist? I agree with only giving helpful feedback, I wouldn't get better if people just said my lashes were great if they werent.

Charjem I wish I lived nr you!

Ask if the hair is double drawn which means the strands are more thicker root to tip, the extensionist will have to cut a bit off the get the 'blunt cut' look :) hope this helps? Also check the weight of the hair, preferably using 1 gram strands and depending on your hair now and what your wanting to achieve 150-200 strands xxx

Hair art, I'm looking for feedback on my first set of tiny locks - 1st set of extensions done in a year. I'd appreciate your advice before I start advertising. It looks a bit stripy to me, I did one row of each colour. Is it best to mix the colours along one row? Before and after my second set of micros 22" any advice would be appreciated thank you xx ImageUploadedBySalonGeek1380725851.867563.jpgImageUploadedBySalonGeek1380725862.083483.jpg

What annoys me more than crap extensions is someone coming in here and only being a member for about 10 days and has now ruined a brilliant thread!!!!!

Hey get glam, when using more than one colour I tend to alternate individual extensions depending on what ratio I'm doing rather than changing colours for each row. Doing it individually I find makes it more natural looking and less 'blockey' (unless the client wants that of course) :)
