Hi folks,

Currently doing a waxing course and have a wax pot at home to practice with on any willing victims. Using salonsystem's cream wax which i'm finding is ok (tend to do my own waxing on myself too).

Was just wondering if anyone out there is using a particular brand which is 'better than the rest' or if you can give me hints on what's good and what's not, as i'll be wanting to stock up at the Excel trade show and don't want to spend money on rubbish if you know what i mean! (P.S. Don't particularly like honey wax).

Thanks :)

Perron Rigot which is a french waxiing system is excellent as well as Hive products.

Hi Lisa,

It's a minefield out there with so much choice, isn't it? As someone wiser than me once said, a good waxing job is often 90% skill of the therapist and 10% product, although a quality brand will certainly make your job easier and more pleasant for you and the customer.

With that in mind, here are some things to look for:
  • Low temperature waxes with a fluid texture that spread easily, and stay soft on the skin (this enables you to cover large areas of the body at a time before you start your removal, allowing for 'speed waxing' techniques).
  • Waxes that don't leave lots of sticky residue behind (easier clean-up for you and nicer for the customer as they don't walk out sticking to their clothes!).
  • Waxes with low reaction potential (some waxes have a very high resin content, which can irritate the skins of some clients).
  • Lots of therapists like waxes with pleasant fragrances, which help create a relaxing ambience in the salon.
  • Others like waxes that contain plant extracts with various soothing or anti-microbial properties (e.g. tea tree, lavender, chamomile, etc).
  • I also like a choice of textures (cream, honey, gel-like, etc) and both soft strip waxes and hard non-strip waxes, and you also need to consider your application method (pot and spatula, roller or disposable applicator).
A lot comes down to personal preference. I'm an independent trainer for Perron Rigot and use this in my salon and on all my training courses, but I have also used and love Lycon, Hive and Depileve.

I hope that helps and that I haven't confused the matter even more! :D

i really like the phd system and waxes :)

Hi I really like the clean and easy system - I have used it since it first came out. Roller methods are great if you go mobile as well as they are easier to keep clean and have less accidents. For ordinary pot wax I love GiGi - I used it a college and their angled spatulas are really handy. Lots of people will tell you what they prefer but I think you need to decide what you want from a system and then go on from there.

i love clean and easy as well as phd wa system and waxes

I have to go with Cirepil (Perron Rigot). My clients LOVE it!! The Blue Hard wax is fantastic. I also get the pinkish one called Ease. It's a bit more money than Clean & Easy or some of the others, but I think it's worth it. I'm pretty sure a lot of the waxers here use it.

I only use Perron Rigot and this was my wax of choice before they asked me to be a trainer for them. I love it and wouldn't use anything else unless a better wax is created. xxx

IVE GOT MY DELIVERY OF DIFFERENT WAXES BY PERRON RIGOT:) as recommended by Axiom.

First to go in the pot is the euro blonde just had a play on my own leg and realised how thin it would actually spread.I was putting it on like hot wax at first.Im very pleased with my first efforts it was very easy to get the hang of.Just need a few willing volunteers and i will let everyone know how im getting on.

Ive got a couple of strip waxes to try and the Eurose. The jasmine oil has a beautiful smell.

I use the Australian BodyCare System wax which is much like the Phd system.
I think it is hard for anyone to be objective about a certain product as we all tent to stick to what we were trained with.
Saying that I might just be swayed after meeting Axiom in Glasgow

Cool beans! :D That's great Gill, I'm so pleased it's arrived and you're enjoying it so far - I've just emailed you some handouts from my training courses which will help you get the best out of the stuff, but both myself and I'm sure Kim too would also be happy to answer any questions you might have by PM or on the forums (I should check before volunteering other people's services like that, lol, but I hope she won't mind, she's a whizz with the stuff).

Having said that, I'm quite sure with your experience that you could teach us a thing or too as well! Let us know how you get on, I'd be interested in your thoughts.

Hi Karen,

The ABC is a brilliant disposable applicator system - have you seen their new hot wax system? It's like a disposable container for each hot wax customer, you only heat the amount you need and can double-dip to your heart's content as the wax is only used for one customer. Brilliant!

Looking forward to meeting you in March :)

Im placing my perron Rigot order tomorrow. Andy kindly helped me a few weeks back with emailing me information thankyou  Ive almost used up all the remainder of my current wax and looking forward to Ordering and using Perron Rigot.

I want to ask a really daft question ... how to you say Perron Rigot? Is it exactly as its spelt? .. I have an awful feeling id pronounce it wrong and sound like a total plonker

I am thinking of using the PHD system as I am mobile, but I was wondering does it work out much more expensive than the other systems

I use perron rigot, (i say riger in my best french accent niki!) again on Andy's suggestion -are you on commsion (LOL) and I love it! I hated non-strip wax at college but I love it now! I used to use ABC but had too many complaints with it - I LOVE PR would never leave!

Hi

I second the Australian Bodycare. Excellent product, you can use the Tea Tree Creme wax or the Honey Clean & Clear Wax. Great results and easy to work with. Not forgetting their fab Hy-wax system (spatula free) and of course their NEW HOT WAX system to be launched at Excel - really does make your clients stop and think about hygiene and cross-contamination. When I've used the spatula free method it always sparks off a conversation about wax hygiene and it is this that wins them over every time. I have clients come to me from other therapists/salons purely because they have 'wised up' to hygienic forms of waxing and no longer want the spatula method.
(I use the In Car Charger bought from ABC whilst travelling in between clients to keep my wax pot heated so I don't have to wait around for a wax pot to heat up when I get there - more time....more money!!)

No I haven't seen that yet sounds fab I was never very good with a spatula so hopefully you will be able to show me the right way rather than me getting more wax on me than the client
