ok ive just recied a all from a girl whos been looking for prebonds for quite awhile, im the only 1 in my area that do them at reasonable prices so it seems! anyway she booked me for a consultation for saturday , and told me she has cancer! she has glue in wefts at mo and says she has parts of her hair that has never grown back!! i have never done a cancer patient before and im not sure if its ok to go ahead and fit prebonds?? im qualified and im in college at the moment doing nvq 2 hairdressing but so far havent covered this ! Is it ok to fit prebonds on a cancr patient? or should i tell her its a no go ????

We have alot of poorly people in the same situation in our salon due to working alongside the my new hair charity set up by Trevor Sorbie.
I also fit extensions, however ive always stated i will only fit them 6 months after the last dose of chemo/radiotherapy as the hair follicles are often left very weak and whilst the hairs growing back its not really strong enough(in my opinion)to take extensions. Its not often i even fit them after 6 months especially as the hair needs time to grow and settle down.
Its a really difficult situation as naturally they want to feel normal and well again, however i always advise my clients against it.
I offer treatments and good cuts to get condition better and then go from there really.
How far into treatment is she and which treatment is she having?

im not sure which treatment she is having or if she has finished treatment, she just asked me to come out to see her and said her hair has grown back but she has a few places where it hasnt grown back fully and has a weft fitted at the moment. So I am thinking maybe she has finished treatment but I will know more when I give her a consultation, thanks for your advice much appreciated x

Scarily ive been getting alot of referrels to me for clients in this position for colouring/cutting/treatments etc and its a very emotive situation i find myself in.
Ive had 3 just this week alone, all under 50 and all with different types of cancer.
I really dont know how these amazing women handle it all to be honest but im really learning alot from them which helps with each new client referred to me.
After a complete meltdown on my part (luckily in the staff room after lady had left the salon!)i didnt want to continue with this side of the job but i had a new referrel yesterday who has finished treatment and is on the up and she was such a positive person, she totally lifted my outlook on the whole situation so im back on it now and am humbled that these couragous women choose me to make them feel so much more normal/better !

I had a client a few weeks ago that had the all clear from cervical cancer and had lost her hair, her hair looked healthy and strong but then told me she had just found out she's pregnant which is another iffy one for extensions. I told her that it's not really suitable to have them while pregnant as hormones effect the hair but she was adament that her hair was fine the last time she had hair extensions while pregnant. I just stated all this on the consultation form and she was happy to sign so I guess that's all u can do really after giving your advice xx
