What is the best way to layer glitter?
I am practicing the faded look at the moment over clear gel and also over gelish. It always seems clumpy and needs lots of buffing to get a smooth finish, although it still never seems glossy enough?

Help please!

Thank you xx:Scared:

Hi Girls,

Loving some of your glitter pics! I am a big big fan of glitter nails, I just think they are beautiful.
Recently though I just seem to be having trouble with them and how they go on. I use alot of Martha Stewart Glitters as I had these when I started out.
I use them with Gelish and I am finding that I have to use 3 or 4 top coats to get them smooth!
I have watched all of fingernail fixers videos on glitters but still find it hard.
I put Foundation on, cure, then a colour, cure, sometimes a second coat of colour and then cure, I then use a brush and press the glitter into the cured coat of colour. I then run a brush over the nail to remove excess glitter but I sometimes find it removes some of the glitter off the actual colour coat almost as if my colour coat isnt as sticky as it should be. I then put a top coat on and cure, I then wipe over with NAS99 (from OPI as I used to use OPI GelColor) and buff down the free edge so its not rough. I dont like to buff the actual top coat as I have found it sometimes takes the colour of the glitter a bit or dulls it slightly. I then apply the next two or three top coats and they are finally smooth. I just feel as though three top coats is too much, let alone sometimes doing four :Scared:
I just cant get them really smooth
Has anyone got any tips please? x

I use one coat of color, it's usually enough. When you apply the glitter, are you using a dry brush? I have better application when my brush is completely dry. It sounds like you aren't pressing the glitter enough. I press down with a gloved finger. Should only need to use two top coats. I use a round eyeshadow brush to apply the glitter. Here's the black holographic on its own, personally I prefer it over a black colour but my customer wanted it on its own x

Usually when I do glitter nails, I put it over an Un-cured colour then cure it but I've read others mixing it with a polish and then brushing it on like you would a normal gel polish. Is one way better than the other? And what do you mix it with? A gel colour? Or just the gel base/top coat? X

I find the better method is to put the glitter into the cured layer of Shellac.

I think the only times it is mixed is usually when doing nail art of french glitter tips.

Have you taken a class in your chosen products? The Shellac nail styles is brilliant.

Christmas ideas :)

This is my attempt today - quite a newbie!! It's Fedora with a kind of chocolate glitter over the top, I'm really pleased with them!
