Hi ladies...

Sooo
I finally drummed up the courage, and had my upper lip waxed yesterday.
(eeks, I yelped like a pomeranian puppy:eek:, 4yr old daughter thought it was hysterically funny, evil child LOL)

Anyway... I survived, and thought, yeah, I can do this again.

Low and behold this morning, I wake up to a rash on my upper lip:irked:
It doesn't irritate me, but it's NOT attractive:o

The rash is like lil pimples without heads, if that makes sense?
A bunch of little red bumps.
Needless to say, NOT happy:grr:

What's the deal?
Any advice here?

I had thought to continue with this.. but now........ am thinking I won't.

This is kind of 'normal'... not everyone gets it but it does happen. Only thing I can think of to advise you, is to apply aloe vera gel ?

But hopefully it'll be gone in a day or so anyway x

This can happen with top lip waxes V especially if you have not had it done before or not been done for some time.

Just make sure that nothing gets onto the area to irritate it further and if you have some aloe vera that should help to soothe it and calm it down. It should clear up in the next 24 hours (some peoples top lip that have been waxed do take longer than other areas), the more you have it done the easier this should get.

Ring the salon back to let them know how it feels now and ask them what advice they would give too.

I am sure that some more experienced waxers will be on soon to let you know what other products you can use to calm the rash down.

Thanks ladies!!

No, it doens't bother me. It's not uncomfortable or anything,so I assume the aloe gel is just to soothe IF it's bothering me?
Just yukky looking  Not crazy about going in public with a bumpy upper lip. IF I go again, will have to remember not to have any outings or clients booked for the same or next day

If this is going to happen all the time, then I can't be bothered. No thanks.

I hope it WILL calm down and go away fast.
Will call the esthetician and let her know and see what she says.

Thanks again.

if you have touched your top lip a lot since haivng it done this could be the cause , the lip has a lot of sebaceous glands in it , and can often happen whne the lip had been over stimulated either too much vigourous rubbing of the strip or after with client touching without realising , hth xxx

I remember booking myself in a for a facial, and with my sensitive skin, ended up looking like a tomato afterwards ... I'd also arranged to go out that evening and didn't really want to leave the safety of home without putting a bag over my head first

V,

Just bleach your tash ! That way it's less painful and you don't get bumps

I used to get a little bit of a rash when I had my top lip waxed but it doesn't happen anymore, I have it done regularly every 3-4 weeks.
My legs are a different story altogether, I always get a rash (the same as you describe), but it normally disappears after 1-2 days.

I am surprised that the salon you attended didn't give you any aftercare advice as this is one thing that I always mention to new clients, along with other pointers, I then back it up with a written aftercare leaflet.

I'm not surprised, soooooo many of my new clients don't have a clue what aftercare advise is and when i explain it to them they are shocked and tell me no one has ever told them that before!!!!! It really annoys me how can some people be so unprofessional!! Grrr :p

most of my clients tell them that no one has ever given them aftercare advice either!

After I get waxed I can not put ANYTHING on it at all for the rest of the day. As soon as the wax comes off my face that is it. I used to go to a lady (before I started doing it) and she would put an after wax oil on, or sometimes even toner and nope - not a good idea for me :S

So right after they take the wax off, dont let them do a thing to you, this might help. I also noticed that honey wax is better for not leaving a rash :)

When you have your lip waxed for the first time, not only does the wax remove all the hair it also takes with it,all dead skin cells. The older you are -the drier the skin -the more skin comes off.If the client has shaved, plucked,or used hair removing cream in the past ,the hair will be stronger, and therefore waxing this strong hair is more aggressive,to the skin, and the client may experience a mild erythema (reddening)
The second lip wax is far less traumatic, and the next and so on.
The bumps you describe may be due to a stronger hair growth,or perhaps wax strips pulled in the wrong direction(hard to do on an area the size of a lip )and only the surface hair was removed.
Waxing pulls the hair from the root, incorrect waxing pulls the root up the follicle, but breaks the hair off at the surface leaving an area that looks hair free but the bulb is sitting underneath the surface creating a bumpy look.Does that make any sense?

Nope, no aftercare advice. Mind you, she knew I was in the industry and have my dep in cosmetology... maybe that's why she didn't advise me?

I knew enough not to touch it, or put makeup on right after.
I waited a good 4hrs before putting my face on, but maybe not long enough?
and wasn't until the next morning the rash appeared.

The rash has subsided BUT now it's dry and peeling a teensy bit? Flaking sort of?

I don't like to use moisturizers as I have not found a single one yet that doesn't give me mini-pimples. (I have rosacea, so dry & itchy & red, while prone to pimples at the same time UGH)
So, I didn't put anything on it.
She did put an aloe based product on my lip after........

we'll see what happens next time I guess?

4 hours is way to quick to put your makeup on Victoria, so that could be the cause of your problem. Regardless of your experience she still should have given you the correct after car advice, but at least you are on the right track now.

By the way, have you ever tried an emulsion or serum type moisturiser if you dont get on with traditional types. If you have not really applied skin care products to your skin in that area you may have had a big build up of dead skin cells in that area which could have contributed to your pimples.

next time you go let the therapist know that your a bit sensitive and ask her to use a little talc.. it makes a barrier between the skin and the wax so the reaction is less than it would have been with out it.

My waxer puts tea tree something or other on my lip after waxing, Ive never had a rash. Is this a good thing or not!?

dont know if you've ever heard or tried but there is one cosmetic product that is fantastic to use after waxing or even microdemerbrasion treatments - its a mineral based cosmetic, ive just checked through my emails but have deleted the site, when i find it again ill give it to you. you'll find with these products your skin will not react after any treatment because they are so pure and light on the skin.
also another method is laser - it works fantastic, my little best friend! beats waxing any day!

It is a completely normal reaction. Using a toner afterwards instead of the usual post-wax cream seems to help. It will ease over time... just keep on waxing.

I cant use anything at all after. Nothing, not tea tree or well honestly I cant put a thing on the area until the next day. If she put aloe it could also have caused it. Like some of the others said....it does get better when you get it again. :)

Good luck next time :)

Ummm If I'm going out in public, it's NOT without my 'face'. I REFUSE to go in public without makeup. H**l NO! That I even showed up to get waxed without my 'face' is a HUGE stretch for me.
BUT will keep that in mind for next time, get it done earlier in the morning, and stay home.

While I don't use 'fancy' products.. I do have a usual cleansing regimen, using a ph balanced/dermatologist prescribed facial cleanser free of perfumes and other garbage.
I do exfoliate regularly, and use 'toner' sparingly (as it aggravates my Rosacea).

I have a serum for around my eyes (but don't find that it does bubkus).
I have hesitated in the last 2yrs to buy anything remotely resembling moisturizer for the rest of my face because everything suggested by estheticians has given me pimples. INCLUDING products targeting Rosacea :grr:. I got tired of spending a fortune, to get pimples within 24/48hrs AND be unable to return the product for a refund.
This product line here is most often recommended to me, but gives me pimples: Eau Thermale Avene - Hydrotherapy and skincare dedicated to sensitive skin

I will be seeing a new Dermatologist in the next month and am hoping that he will be able to sort me out. The last 2 were old farts and did nothing but cause me to waste money.

I can't put tea-tree oil on my face. I can put it anywhere else, but on my face it burns like a @#$%^&* and aggravates the Rosacea.

I want to fight wrinkles, I want to wax... but.......... ARRGGGHHHHH

(upper lip still flaking, btw)

Thanks again ladies!!
