Hi ya, are you sure you are up to doing this course? I dont want to put a dampner on things but if you are feeling overwhelmed and drowning so early on, it may be an idea to take time out...recover properly and then restart.

There is nothing worse, in my opinion of being on a course and dreading it...yes there will be parts that are testing, after all thats what they are all about and if you are planning on teach you need to be alert etc?

I am speaking from experience here, I was glad I took time out of a course to get back to optimum health, I was better focused etc....

Please dont take what Ive wrote personally Im speaking of how I found things and you have had alot to contend with

Hi everyone,I'm on exactly the same course as loublou was Preparing teach in lifelong learning sector level 3 and 4.It's also the same assignment to describe what your role, responsibilities and boundaries would be as a teacher in terms of the teaching/training cycle in 500 words.I've never taught a class of students apart from voluntering to help the youth so i understand loublou totally because i'm finding it really hard and just don't know how to get started could anyone give me any examples or point me in the right direction please can you help me,i would really appreciate all your help thankyou.
Send me a PM hun if you still need help and i will help all that i can

Hi everyone. I am in the little of completing 7303 PTTLS Level 4. I am on my last assignments which are 'review your role, responsibilities and boundaries as a teacher' and 'evaluate a range of ways to embed functional skills'. The handouts we have been given are not much help and neither are the reference books. Can anyone give me a starting point. I seem to have hit a wall and just can't seem to get anything down on paper.
Any help would be appreciated.

Have you done Level 3?

I haven't done Level 4 yet but have completed Level 3 last year. I found the embedding of functional skills during a teaching session quite difficult (we don't always think about using numeracy, literacy, it, communication etc., when we do things we are so used to doing). Also, writing reflective statements can be tough.

If I can offer any help at all I can try for you. I still have my portfolio, Edexcel handbook etc. Not saying I can cos it's level 3 but any help is good isn't it?

Thanks Gilly. I am doing level 4 which is slightly more in depth than level 3. But as you say any help would be good.

No problem..... I understand. Knew you weren't looking for the answers as such but just how to kick off so to speak.

Good luck

I have just completed this course and I did find it quite overwhelming to start with.... but after a while I kind of fell into their way of thinking. I took loads and loads of note during each lesson and used these along with the book PTTLS to write my assignments.
When we had 'review role, responsibilities and boundaries' I related this to the teaching cycle and stated my role, responsibility and boundary with regard to each step. Embedding functional skills I related to my specialised area (beauty), so how I embedded basic maths, i.t, and english into these lessons. Eg, using correct amount of products, or mixing correct ratios of product - maths, using the pc to find out info for me - I.T and filling out consultation sheets - english.
Hope this helps, If you need anymore info pm me.
Linds x

I am in the middle of doing it, level 4!!

I HATE IT... my tutor is soooo unhelpful its unreal!

Her lesson plans are all on post-it notes, that she crumples up and chucks in the bin once she had covered it. She is meant to be en example of how to run a course, as thats that we are learning really. The whole thing is a shambles.

I haven't been for 2 weeks and soooo not looking forward to going tomorrow night.

Got to some how do about 4 assignments today.... eek!!

It will all be worth it in the end! (i hope)

I was supposed to be in college last Tuesday for the first day of my course but i had been in hospital the week before for 3 small op`s so i wasn't well enough to attend and i have missed the first class,
the tutor allowed me to go in on Friday to collect my course handbook,
i have an assignment to write and have to hand it in on Tuesday, i am working Mon and only have today to do this in but as i missed the first class i don't have much info to go on, i am sure some of the geeks on here have done this course and was hoping for some help, even if you just point me in the right direction of where i can get some info from online would help enormously.
The course is City and Guilds 7303
Preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector level 3 and 4.
My first assignment is to describe what your role, responsibilities and boundaries would be as a teacher in terms of the teaching/training cycle.
i have to do this in 500 words, HELP :Scared:

I have never had a role as a teacher so this is all completely new to me.

I'm also on this course and finding it some how challenging. Can anyone help with Theory assignment 3? The title is Explain how you could promote inclusion, equalityand diversity with your current/future learners. Identify other points of referral available to meet the potential needs of learners.
This is got be handed in by Monday, please help!!!

When you have finished this course you will look back at this thread and think did I really say that!

Remember back to when you started nails and I bet you said at the beginning - I am never going to get this - and look at you now!

You will get there - and sounds like you have got lots of support on here too.
You are so right Theresa,
i have just read this thread again today and was fairly embarrassed to be honest,
i managed to do the course and passed no problem but i can still say that i didn't enjoy the course and the tutor was of no help at all,
in fact he was so helpful it may as well been an online course with no one there to help,
the girls that gave me advise and well wishes are the ones that helped me through this,
the unfortunate thing to come out of all this is that i no longer want to follow on with the other units unless i can do it at another college but the one i attended is the only one doing these courses,
i was going to delete this thread but i have left it in the hope that it will help anyone else doing the course

So glad I found this thread - I go for an interview at college tomorra to see if Im worthy enough to do the same course. So I may be in the situ as you lou, so beware lol

The interview is a breeze hun,
give me a shout if you need any help

I completed mine on friday and then handed in a written complaint me and another student wrote a two page letter airing our concerns at how we were treated at the hands of the tutor. We felt he were training us to be teachers and took the I CANT BE BOTHERED TODAY attitude while we were doing our microteach. He needed to go back over his material and take a long hard look at his attitude on teaching.

Lou helped me no end she is a gem. without her I dont think it would have sunk in.
Thanks louise x

Hi Louise.. im please to see you want to teach in colleges to raise the standards which is what i'm doing! Can i just ask what made you want to do this particular course and i wonder who put you on this route..?
To teach nails in college you need firstly the NVQ level 3 in nails- you must have that level of qualification before you can teach any subject. The course you are doing is fine but if you want to be a lecurer you must have a foundation degree in the certificate of education ( cert ed)which is done thru a university at college and then the city and guilds A1 assessors award-so youd have to do this as well..so im afraid that when you complete the 7303 you'll have a few more years to go( i was put straight on cert ed) Please pm me and i can break it all down for you as well as help with homework..

what you are doing is fab and we need more skilled nail tech in the colleges- my college which is number 4 in the country- didnt teach nails to level 3 as they had no one skilled enough but i can see some great techs in my class which is making the hard study really worth while!

This thread was posted by Louise originally in Oct 07

having the Cert Ed to teach doesnt come into effect untill 2010 - you can still teach and be working towards the cert ed as I am doing at the moment

Qeustion though : If like myself the nails services NVQ level 3 wasnt available as a qualification when I originally trained in nails - would you have to still do the Level 3 now even though the courses I have undertaken and the experience I have had are more than equivalent to Level 3 standards

I am considering doing it anyway just cos I love doing courses :) but would be interesting to know - also there must be plenty of level 3 teachers out there who havnt actually got the level 3 nail services because it is a relatively new qualification but their skills and the equivalent courses they would have undertaken mean they are qualified to teach it
