Hey everyone.
I've been looking on this amazing group from the sidelines for sometime now.
I'm an older nail technician (48) with some confidence issues, I have suffered with servere anxiety for sometime.I done a college course back in 2015. Proud to say that I gained a level 2 certificate.
Since then I've been practicing on family and friends like you do,but I've never felt good enough to put myself out there. I have all the kit. Gelish range, including 20+ Gel polishes and lamp.
Does it just "click" one day, where you think you are good enough. I would so love to do this.x

I'm pretty much the same I'm qualified but yet to work on paying clients I to do family friends etc have a full kit and more yet lack the confidence in my work to go pro with it I'm terrified I'll make hurrendous mistakes or they won't like my work I've pretty much spent the time since qualifying doing course after course of various techniques kind of filling my time and putting it off by saying il do it when finished this course or that course I think you just have to do it the first is always going to be scary but I used to shake doing friends and family and now I can do that comfortably I'm guessing people paying will be the same I hope x

I'm in a similar situation, I'm due to begin lvl 3 this September after finishing lvl 2 earlier this year. I've never worked in a salon and am trying desperately to find work! Like both of you I practise on friends and family but can't even seem to find my confidence with them! I try and talk myself into feeling good about my work, I know I'm no super star but we all have to start somewhere right? My first trade test today and I completely flopped... I really pray I suddenly get an overwhelming feeling of confidence because at the moment I'm really lacking!!

Start by offering free mannys to people you don't know. There's less pressure and I'm positive you will love the feedback which will help with your confidence!

It's scary deciding to take that step of charging for your service, we've all been there and I promise it really does get easier :)
If you want some genuinely honest critiques of your work why don't you post some pics on here. No-one will be mean but we can be honest and helpful and let you know if you're ready to charge.

The only way to gain skills and confidence is to have real clients. Just do it!

I find putting my work on here helps with confidence because if you have X amount of proffesionals saying your work is up to scratch or just little things you could improve you know it's not as bad as what you think about your own work and being niggly about the little things is what makes us good at the big things anxiety doesn't help I suffer with anxiety to mainly about crazy things like the l+p drives me mad I really do think here is the best place to get the pick me up you need the geeks are lovely helped me so much when I've not been confident in my work now I can do most things on family etc and just getting back into acrylic x

Just book real clients, they will give you real feedback, sometimes harsh and use that to help improve your skills and confidence, where you need to be tweaking your service offered x

I've herd it all about my nails, bumpy, uneven, lifted, pinged off and all the rest of it, i really think real clients, real critique helps make you better, and you'll be more conscious off the area your lacking on till it becomes second nature x
