Hi!

Has she,put a business plan together?

Best advice I would give is do one, she needs to see if it's financially viable x

The very first thing you need to consider is how much money are you prepared to kiss goodbye to.
The whole venture needs to be on a professional footing, with a properly drawn up contract, so that if it all goes pear shaped you both have some protection.
If you can't afford a contract you need to consider whether you can afford the legal fees in the event of any problems.

If that sounds harsh there is much evidence to suggest that doing business with family is almost always fraught with difficulties.

If your niece wants to open a salon why isn't she posting on here herself, why has she got you to do it for her? SHE should be the one doing the research... or will she want you to do all the running around if her salon does go live?

She will need to be very self-motivated if she is to start up her own business, she won't necessarily be able to rely on others to do things for her especially in the initial stages when money is very tight.

Sorry to be blunt but just speaking from personal experience.

Hi, welcome to SG. Have you put much of a plan together? How about starting with a plan, working out costings and as Lynne suggested look at the legal aspects as you go.

Once you have fleshed out as much of the plan as you can yourselves, why not make use of SG to answer any outstanding questions you have? Either search to see if previous geeks have come up against the same issues, or post questions here on specific aspects you would like help with?

There really is tons of info on this site from others' past experience, so do make use of it :)
