Hi girls,

I recently attended the OPI gelcolor course and liked the product, I am now working in the salon which uses the OPI gel color and we seem to be having issues with chipping and it not lasting the 2 weeks, I've previously used shellac and never had any issues with it. Can anyone give any advise on anything that could help us!!

Thanks
Laura

Hi Laura,

I'm newly qualified so I'm no expert. But I recently got some advice regarding OPI gel color as I'm also using this product and was advised to invest in OPI bond aid, are you using this already? I currently just use a non acid primer with the OPI as I haven't had a chance to buy the bond aid yet, but I've read some great reviews. I also read online that you don't need to buff the nail etc with OPI but I tend to buff anyway and wipe etc and seems to be ok. Hth xx

Hi Claire,

Yes we've been using the bond aid so unsure why it's not lasting we are always capping the edges too, do you buff and then wipe with NAS 99? Xx

Hey [emoji3]I have some tips, so after you have painted all five nails (don't cap the free edge at this point ) I go back and cap the free edge literally a few secs before putting it in the lamp. This stops it having time to shrink back. Also if it's darker colours that shrink quicker ie licoln park after dark, after I paint one nail, I cap that free edge and flash cure for 10 secs. It is annoying but but i rarely ever get lifting [emoji3]. Xx

Hi! Ahh ok I will try this and see if it helps. Do you enjoy using the OPI gel? Xx

Thanks for the advice xx

No just normal prep and wipe. I also only do two nails at a time and always recap the first nail again before going under the lamp. It can shrink I've noticed. I also do both thumbs together otherwise I find they don't cure properly hth. It does take longer doing two at a time but seems to work for me X

I think I will try the curing 2 nails and see if it works better! Thanks for the help xx

No probs let me know how it goes!!! I'm still learning with applying the gel sometimes finding three thin coats required have you noticed this? Sometimes I even feel another one is needed!!! Scared to put on thicker due to bubbling / shrinking xx

Yes I will keep you updated! Yeah I agree colours like put it in neautral and mod about you we've had to do 3 layers just to get a good colour! What lamp are you using if you don't mind me asking? Xx

I like opi now but it took a while lol! I also use bond aid so maybe this helps. Xxx

We are using bond aid, only thing we don't use is the fluffy but we use another type of nail brush! Xx

I did my training with Lena white Sally's training centre for it and they said you can do up to 4 thin coats of some colours to get full coverage[emoji3]I've never had any bubbling etc also some other lady was saying if you wipe over the nails with acetone after nas 99 but before bond aid this helps. I do this too and it stopped any problems. Xx

Ahh this is helpful I'm gonna try this with my next client, thank you so much! Xx

[emoji3]no worries keep me posted about how you get on xxx

It is likely that the lamp is your problem. The Mylee lamps aren't powerful enough for OPI. If you look through this forum, you'll see a few complaints about using them with OPI. In order to ensure a proper cure, you ought to use the lamp for your system, in this case, the OPI black or white OPI Studio lamps.

I'm using the cnd led lamp as I found it much better than the OPI one!

just checked, it's not a Mylee at all I have it's a Babz lol! Must've seen a Mylee lamp somewhere haha. The Babz one cures the gel no problem, never had any issues with it so far. Let me know how it goes, I might invest in nas 99 xx

How are you getting on now? As were also having problems with Gelcolor x
