Just wanted some of your thoughts, with it being summer I'm doing alot more paraffin wax pedicures. Normally I brush the wax onto the feet, I have limited space to work so find this proceedure very messy and time consuming also sitting on the floor on my hands and knees I feel doesn't look very professional, so what are your thoughts of dipping foot straight into wax bath as I do for hands? I have read up on the use of paraffinx wax and the information I have read says that no diseses can be passed on from client to client all using the same bath but not sure if doing it this way would be off putting to clients even though no harm can be done. I also feel dipping straight into bath is a nice feeling.......... better than me slopping it on. I have also read a thread about ladeling the wax into the plastic protector bag then inserting the foot so will try this on hubby to see how I get on.......... dipping the foot straight into the wax bath though would be so much easier, faster and less faffing about, opinions would be very grateful thankyou..........

Hi Jersey, I think clients may find the direct dipping a bit off-putting. I know it would be for me unless I saw you put in a fresh block of paraffin and melt it right in front of me.

I'd prefer the ladle and individual paraffin bags to the direct dipping. You could wrap the "baggied" foot or hand in a hot towel or mitten to make the treatment more luxurious.

Yes this was my thought also, if I was a client eventhough the tech told me I couldn't catch anything as a customer I still wouldn't be convinced, I would just think yuck............I've got booties so thats fine, so do you just ladel the wax into the bag ( how many ladle fulls approx?) place onto foot then I presume massage to cover foot then place on booties, thanks so much for your advice...

The ladle we use is very large so we use just one ladle full. And once the I put the bag with paraffin onto foot, I work the paraffin around to ensure there is coverage. After that, then the warm bootie.

When I used to do paraffin treatments I used to decant into a separate bowl and brush on the feet/hands from that. Any left was then thrown away so there was no chance of contamination.

Ooh I like it this way. What bags do you use? I use the plastic liners after brushing onto the foot from a bowl

I have never used the paraffin from the bath, we always used the paraffin wax sprays that you could throw away afterwards. We would just place a bag around the foot, spray on until covered, wrap the bag round then cover with towelling booties and heated booties.

We would start melting the wax at the beginning of the treatment. The only downside would be buying the cartridges and heater, but there was far less mess than those using the brush method.

Hi Jersey Jock, my clients sit on my beauty bed (back upright) for this treatment (it saves your back and knees) I ladle the paraffin wax into a separate bowl lined with foil, then brush onto the foot. At the bottom of the bed I have a towel, bed roll and the two pieces of foil ready to wrap the feet, I sit at the end of the bed on my stool. I also then paint their toes in the same position (they just bed their knees so foot is flat), they are comfy and so am I. xx

Unfortuneatly I don't have room for a beauty bed, I would love to do it this way as it would be so much more comfortable for myself and client.........

hi i dont really do paraffin on feet anymore but when i worked at nails inc we used to dip the feet straight in,we used to spray the feet with some type of hygiene spray first. it was loads easier i have to say

That sounds the best idea as the client can see there feet are getting hygiene spray first - I take it this foes not affect the dipping in wax or the wax itself ?
X fab idea though and so simple (which are usually the best ideas !)
:)

This is what we do also.

Then wrap feet in cling film and into bootees.

Fantastic article - really interesting thank you x

Dipping feet directly into paraffin is honestly disgusting and dangerous. I don't care if you spray "sanitizing spray" onto their feet. There is germs in places you can't sanitize and the only way to kill all germs and bacteria is STERILIZATION and you CAN'T sterilize skin. bacteria LOVES to grow in paraffin.

Anyone who is doing this should stop. The nail and esthetics industry isn't very regulated where I live but THIS is illegal because of how gross that is.

You might as well just use the same pedicure water for two people. Omg.

I respectively completely disagree with that article.

My aunt is the head nurse at one of the hospital's here and made it clear to me when I started that I should never dip people's hands or feet into paraffin. Boiling water at 100 degrees C isn't completely free of pathogens. Paraffin has a higher boiling point but as we all know, it's not boiling in the warmer.

I've actually seen clusters of bacteria growing in paraffin before. Guess what it does? It encases itself into a ball at the bottom of the warmer.

Everyone has a right to their opinion, but I will continue to use the bag method and a clean scoop to service my clients because I put their safety first, not my ease of use.

Can't see how it's the same as using the water twice as it has been shown that the wax encapsulates the hand immediately so anything on the hand doesn't enter the wax (see the studies and the dye demonstration). I've used the dipping method for 13 years on a near daily basis and have NEVER seen anything growing in the bath and have yet to find any foreign material in the bath, which is in line with every published study I have seen on the subject. Perhaps, other than opinion, you're prepared to point to a published and verified independent study that shows the dipping method is 'dangerous'?

The studies I have read were in my manuals for school. I'm sure tomorrow when I have time I can bring them up for you. In the mean time, it's common sense otherwise. If you'll notice, the paraffin doesn't dry or become fully hard until you remove your hand/foot from the bath.

And regardless of that, it's not a steel encapsulation. It's paraffin and therefore permeable to organisms. I'm certainly not saying everyone or even ANYONE who dips their foot into your bath will contract some rare flesh eating disease.

The simple fact of the matter is that bacteria loves warm, wet climates and paraffin could potentially be a breeding ground for that. As long as it's legal in your area, you are more than welcome to continue doing as you please, contrary to what I said before. Don't stop. Carry on. And I will continue to use my bag method. I would rather be safe than sorry. That's my personal choice in my own spa and you have your choice. :)

I also refuse to use a "sanitizable" file twice but that's just me.
