This is a biology study done at the U of Mcgill in Canada. If you're not interested in reading all 100 or so pages, feel free to skip to page 81 where it states

It was found that four of the nineteen bacteria grew well on paraffin wax.

And in this study, you can see that a couple of the test subjects had bacteria in the paraffin. some, but not all. and using a simple sanitizing spray actually cause MORE bracteria to grow, so a strong disinfecting spray for hands or feet is neccesary, if that's the route you choose to take.

Again, as I stated before, I don't want to be the one salon out of ten that has the bacteria in the paraffin. Relative safety and low chance don't have any place in MY spa.

I think we all now understand how you feel about paraffin wax.

Thank you for trying to convince us of the error of our ways.

I am still with Martin Duffy on this one.

Respect for your views.

Thanks for all your advice, just done a paraffin wax treatment using the hive paraffin wax protector plastic bags and a ladel, worked well, only thing was the bags must have holes in them as some of the wax seeped out!!!!! bit of a mess but not too bad as it went solid quite quick, a bit dissapointed with the bags though didn't think they would have holes in them, do you think sandwich bags would be ok or can anyone let me know what they use...........thanks xxx

i just use sandwich bags hun

I also found that the 'liners' sold for this leaked causing a mess. Use plastic sandwich or freezer bags as they are of a heavier plastic and have a stronger sealed seam. I really hate cleaning up paraffin wax. :irked:

Back in 1991 when i was training. we just used a brush and brushed it on straight from the heater lol. in layers..
