I want to raise my prices i currently start at£20 for tip and overlay but im findibg that im attracting too many bargin hunters.

How much would be a reasonable price increase. Im mobile so got to think of petrol etc
Any help geeks?

What is the most expensive you can find in your area?

Can you add on any extras that pad out your offering and make you luxury?

I tend to increase my prices by £1-£2 every other year and none of my clients complain.

If you don't really have regulars then i would have a look round at all the local prices and charge yourself in line with them or maybe a fraction below.

If you have regulars it can be difficult to implement a large increase xx

The most expensive in my area is mobile and charges £80.

Most others charge £25 (nss) £35 posher (nss) and £45 salon.

I want to stand out from others and not because of my cheap price tags.

I want everything to be abit more glam and luxe. But im a wee stuck.

Do you know anything about the £80 business? What they offer/branding etc?

Its called purity of life. I believe its all cnd they use, and that treatment time is two hours.

I spent two hours tpday doing two sets back to back....

I completely agree with Flawless Beauty. It could be difficult to implement a radical increase if you have regulars.... but then I do think your service sounds far too cheap, that said I don't know what the going rate is in your neck of the woods!

However, loyal clients or not, ask yourself - can you really afford to continue working for the prices you currently charge anyway? Will your business survive/will you survive long term on these rates? If not, it may be worth losing a few clients if their not willing to pay more and starting over? Perhaps a 'relaunch' and go on a massive advertising campaign to draw in new customers. What do you offer that sets you aside?

I use to charge next nothing as I had no confidence in myself, but I just couldn't afford to do it anymore - we need to have confidence in our work and believe in the value of it. I now charge £38.00/£40 for gel extensions which is in line with techs in my area. I'm based at my home... and yes, I'm still a blooming push over sometimes and I still doubt myself, but I resent working for a pittance when I know what I do is worth more! Hth :)

The majority of mobiles is my area charge £20-£25 so i orginally worked from that price.

But as you said i feel like the work I am producing is worth far more then that.

My buisness is still under a year old so im still building up a client base and lost quiet a few regulars just be taking a month off around when my baby came. I was back to work by the time she was 2 weeks.

I need to find a USP but Im at loss of how to.
Thanks for all your input so far geeks any more help would be very apprucuated.

You don't always need a USP.....you just have to be fabulous and worth returning to! It could perhaps be possible to take the leap to higher end prices, but for your few regulars say that you will keep them on at their own prices for 6 months.

Thats what hubby said.

Im really going to push with the rebrand, get website all updated facebook etc.
But where dp you advertise for higher end clients?

Try not to be too disheartened you may find those regulars come back. Have you emailed or text to say your back at work. My baby is 17 weeks old and I was back working after 2 weeks. My work mobile broke and I lost all contacts only had some mobile numbers from client record cards. I got my last regular customer back last week and the ones I thought I'd lost didnt want to contact me beforehand as they thought I'd be taking more time off xx

I messaged everyone letting them know i was taking appointments from X.3.2012

Maybe they were just to kind to upset a pregnant girl!!

Do you have a fB page? In a hairdressing salon I previously worked in they had a price increase and 6 weeks before we put a small tasteful notice in a cram at reception-big enough for people to see but not massive stating that due to rising cost there would be a small increase in prices due to rising costs. People didn't mind as they had notice. Of you had some price lists printed up with the new pieces And at the the bottom a date they apply from? So you could do another month or so of your current prices but people know ok for my next appt it's going to be an extra few £s

I agree- just be very good at what you do, and don't be afraid to be confident enough to market the fact that you are!

Why not have a "loss-leader"? A loss-leader is usually a popular product that is either reasonably or slightly underpriced that will attract people to your business (or retain them as clients) - but means you can add a slight margin to your other services that your clients may or may not use.

They might not be the most glamorous example- but the owner of Sports Direct has become a billionaire using those principles. You go in there for a £20 shirt and come out with a marked-up Adidas poloshirt for £40!
