Hi everyone,

I started a thread a while back about starting my own home based salon, it is now getting under way and i am starting new courses. Very exciting!!! :D Just a few quick questions I wanted to ask if anyone could help???

Firstly what days and hours do you open?
What do you do if you need time off or holiday etc?
And also what do you find are the most successful advertising techniques?

Apprieciate any help! Thankyou :) x

Hiya,

Glad to hear that you have opened your home salon. I dont have a home salon but I was working mobile, I tended to do evenings as it was when my clients wanted. I do however think that set hours are best but it is good to be flexible as and when possible. I would probably start with thurs, fri, sat as they seem to be the busiest and go from there. For holiday I would choose when you want to go and book it far enough in advance so you can warn your clients and fit them in before you go and after you come back. As for advertising I personally found my website was a great help as are google adwords but word of mouth is worth its weight in gold. So maybe a referral scheme would help when you have a few regular clients?! Geeks with home salon experience may be able to advise you more but I hope this helps a little bit.

Best of luck

I'm homebased and have been for the last year. It's my full time job so I do whatever hour's client's want because I'm building up. 9 in the morning to sometime's as late as 9 at night. I do get time off in the day sometime's. I work monday to friday and I fing that saturday's I don't always work or I put they in first thing so I get the rest of the day. It's because I find I do the late evening's that saturday's are quieter.
I have only had a week off for holiday this past year, I have had the odd day off.

I think if you are just starting out then you need to be prepared to work all hours, to get clients in through the door. I state in advertising that i work 9am, to 8pm during the week but some days I might not have any clients. I've been home salon based since end of April and some weeks are quiet when others aren't too bad. Just because you advertise the hours you work, as you are home based you can still pick and choose your hours.
Best of luck with your new venture, its so exciting. x

Thanks for your help everyone! Really appreciate it, i guess I will just start by working to fit around my customers to attract new people. Also I was wondering what type of paperwork would have to be carried out within a home based salon? x
