Hello,

I have recently set up at the back of my aunties' hair salon, and although I have been trained with Elemis, Dermalogica, Thalgo & Matis... They all want a minimum of £2,500 or more for an order.

I do not have a large call for facials and I spoke to my beauty supplier and they recommended "Skin Truth". I have bought a small range, which was good, as I am not using that much. My call is more nails....

Does anyone else use this range or do you have any suggestions to promote facials as people have not heard of the brand. I have a lot of elderly clients so pushing for facials when they are stuck in their "routine" is proving difficult.

Hope someone out there can help?!

hiya,
this has been discussed in great detail already, why don't you search through the archives and see what has already been said.

from what I can remember, the general consensus was skin truth is very basic and anyone in the trade would recognise it as at the lower end of the market.

have you tried Germaine de cappancinni and Eve Taylor, their start up packages aren't so steep.

I use these products, and havent had any complaints. I know its a evil word, but why dont you look on ebay, sometimes you can find professional skin products for salon use, on it.

No, no, no!!!

How on earth will you know that you're actually getting what it says? It may say 'x' on the jar but you actually have 'y' inside it. Don't waste your money or risk your clients skin for this.

Seriously, look around some other sites. I use Eve Taylor, it is lovely, there is no minimum starting order, you pick and chose what products you want, when you want them.

But please, DO NOT be tempted to buy professional products off eBay, it really isn't worth it.

I have only bought new products, as Pure, is correct there is con people out there. I have only bought for myself, as my insurance is too precious. Worth a thought!!

Hello Again,
Thanks for your info.

I wouldn't buy products from eBay, As people have commented, insurance etc, is not worth it.

I know Skin Truth is not the BEST but for now, as the salon has only been open two months, I didn't want to spend out on some companies minimum order of £2,500, when I have more call for nails, which I specialise in.

I am trained in Elemis, Thalgo & Matis, but the minimum order is HUGE...
I have looked into Eve Taylor and am going to start getting a few samples and info packs sent.

Any other tips, I'm happy to hear

Carly x:lol:

Have you looked at Susan Molyneux?

I recently set up too and have got their range (kit around £600 + vat I think).

They include a days training and I absolutely love the products. They are plant extract & essential oil based - very natural and smell beautiful. they are lovely to work with and very effective. I can honestly say every facial I have done I have seen the client walk out happy with a radiant, glowing complexion.

They are very supportive too and always happy for you to call with any queries at all.

Hiya. I was browsin for info on eye treatments, and noticed ur post.
At college, we all use the skin truth range, we have all the different sorts of cleansers, toners and moisturisers, and the masks and exfoliators. The clients we get in the salon dont have a problem with the products, and i have to have and practice facials every thursday, and i think they're better that the Strictly Professional range.

Our local beauty salon that has just opened up, use skin truth face and body products.

They cant be that bad to use, if she is using it in a salon environment.

May I ask why?

Hi,
Eve Taylor has a mobile kit for facials and is not too expencive. Their producst MUST be better than a wholesale range.

Have you heard of Natures Way products? I have used both Skintruth and Natures Way products at college and everyone preferred Natues Way by far. They have a more pleasant fragrance and their packaging is nicer too. They are also very resonably priced. Check them out on beauty express website: Buy Natures Way products from Beauty Express. hth's

Hey, i use skin truth and all my clients have always been pleased, i dont think alot of clients really mind as long as its a good service and a nice treatment, all my clients said they saw good results too.
Im starting up on my own and i got the skin truth range again and i swear by it!
I am due to train with dermalogica this year and maybe when i expand my business i will switch to it, but untill then i am more than happy with skin truth!!!!:)

Hello Again!

I have been using this now since September when I opened, and I find it is a really nice product, based on the pricing structure.

I have purchased this range due to researching the market & potential client's in the area... (4 p's)
They will not pay a high amount of facials, as a lot of my clients are older, they tend to get stuck in their routine and trying ti swap is not worth it. I concentrate on nails, which is what I specialise in....

I used to work at Saks, and was trainined in Elemis, also, I am trained in Thalgo & Matis, so I could use them, but I don't see much point in spending, as most a minimum order is £2,500, to let them products sit on the shelf because clients wont pay top dollar and waste the product's shelf life.

hi i have been a beauty therapist for 10 years and i have been using skin truth for about 4 my clients love it and buy for home use time after time, i know it is cheep but that is a advantage not a problem, it is hypoallergenic and as i have very sensitive skin i try out all products on my self first and i found no problems with it, it is made from natural ingredients and as my clients point out it smells nice, is not greasy, sticky or heavy on the skin they love it and it is easy to get hold of at the suppliers as if your clients are happy with it stick with it it is as good as Au naturals range but a lot cheaper.

i used skintruth during my makeup training and natures way during my facials training

out of the two i prefer natures way

skintruth is available from beauty express or sallys

i am using salon systems chi skincare range at the moment and my clients love it because it contains essential oils

Eve Taylor is the one that i reccommend, skin truth is a very basic skin care that is why colleges use it lol

and if salons use this then they car,nt be that proffesional either that or they hav,nt got the funds to go with a professional product clients always come first they bring in your wages lol

I use Skintruth in my salon and on myself at home.
I like it to use and the customers who have regular facials especially like the collagen masks. I have a few nail clients who regularly buy the retail range as it's on display in front of them. I think that the price is very reasonable for the quality and packaging. (If it was expensive, I'm sure I'd lose half my clients  )
So, for now, I'm happy with it :)

Thank you for all of your comments.

As I explained, I have been trained in other salons, and everyone has to start somewhere when they first become self employed. If any of my clients did not like the product or facial, my first priority would be to change my products and discuss what other brands she has used.

My prices reflect the product. The area I work in is more elderly and although they are willing to pay for treatments, I will not charge way over the odds. I would rather have my clients come back more regular, than book in and pay for a really expensive treatment, never to come back again.

Hope this makes sense....
