Hi all

I bought a steamer about 4 weeks ago and have used it abot 6 or 7 times the problem is it really smells! Its like a plasticky smell which is quite strong and off putting to clients! Is it because its new? Has ayone else had this problem?

I wouldn't of said it should smell like that now, I could be wrong though.

Have you checked the instructions?? Does it say anything about it?? maybe you could ring the supplier and have a word with them about it, they would probably be able to tell you more.

I would contact manufacturer.
You could try running it through with a teaspoon of soda crystals dissolved in the water rinse and run through again a few times after of course.

is it an ozone steamer, i think ozone smells a bit

no i know wot ozone smells like!

I would try adding a bit of aroma oil to your water this will hopefully take the smell away also try running it a few more times but not on clients it may be that it's not been used enough to get rid of "the new smell"

If it continues ring the manufacturer for advise, hth

so its ok to put aroma oils in a astreamer that isnt an aromzone?!

Have you got a little chamber where you can pop some oil?Other thing you can do is put some oil on your towel that you use to cover the head of steamer, this will take the smell away.

You can get water disolvable essential oils but check with your instructions or manufacturer because you might bung things up.

no no chamber.

i dont cover the head of my steamer is this wrong?

Hi,
Thank goodness someone else has the same problem.............I thought it was just me and my twitching nose.
I thought about putting in some lemon juice or even a bit of rind to see if that would help.
I've been tempted to try oils, though it says you shouldn't.
The clients seem to be OK with it, but I don't think it's as pleasant as it could be !!!!!!!!
I'll keep thinking and let you know if I come up with anything groundbreaking:confused:

I was taught to drape a towel over the edge, not over the actual outlet though. This prevents you from burning yourself when repositioning the nozzle and prevents splatters of water (for the ones that splatter a bit)It was more a H&S issue than anything else.HTH

interesting i may try that
