I do it the way Bagpuss told. Place the gel and then push it from behind. The thing is not to be too gentle, but not too hard either. You should also have a look at the angle of your brush. I have found it easier to use my brush kind of "flat". It's difficult to explain, you have to watch it then you will understand. Wow, my English isn't the best today, sorry, I'm on my way to work...:)

Marts clip was the reverse technique with l&p. If you are sculpting you can do the same with gel using a coverage pink gel and 'carve'/ cut out the smile line and just 'butt' the white up. I prefer Bagpuss' method myself if using a thicker white. (Gr8 pics & nails Angie) If using a thinner consistency white I clean my brush ( not in gel cleanse as it dries it too much causing the bristles to drag not sweep the line in) but on a wipe with a little cleanse. I then turn my brush (as if I were to back brush - bristles facing me) and sweep centre to right side, centre to left side.
Mavric you can practice smiles on anything the trick is to know how to adjust a smile line to suit different clients hands so practice all ways

I'm always seeking perfection too ! Last week I thought it was time to tidy up my own nails and this time i decided to use a dotting tool ot do the whites instead of a brush, I found it sooo much easier ! I do think like ang said it works better not to go too thin where the white meets the pink having it thicker there makes for a cleaner smile

just did these very quickly...they ain't brill but might help

pic 1...placing a bead of paint on white

pic 2...pushing the gel from behind

pic 3...after pushing into place gently drag down to cover the tip/free edge

WOW...that's fabulous! Thank you for posting this!

Bloomin good you tube clip!

(Why is it when I pinch.....the acrylic has always set already....and I do it faster than that!!!???? Grrr.)

Anyway.....reverse or regular application, keep practicing, and find out which is easier for you. I'd say with gel.....do it the regular way. Pracice those smiles!!!

I promise....you will get there!
