I got a. thread further below well i had a appoimtment ar 12.45 today amd they wernt even gojng to do a strand test whemn im having a full head of bleach shoulxd i be worried and reconsider mh appointment

Not really, they may do the strand test while you are there, they may even only do a bleach bath on u in low strength. Xoxo

Nope when i rang up they said why do you need a strand test? Do you think your hair wont take it? She wamted to do two lots of bleach god knows what syrength i went for a consultation on friday... but they didnt even check how porous my gair was or the elasticity etc ive had a few colours in my hair as wel.. i went to 3 salons that day all high end ones and not one offered me a strand test or a skin test. im quiye shocked really. .. amd makes it worse because you dont know who to trust ... ive booked in with my college anyway they said therno way. any one should be doing a colour correction without doing a strand tes i hope they can sort it .. but why do salons well some not follow basic procedure its worrying

If its just bleach they are using then no a skin test won't be done. But the consultation should be thorough enough to find out previous processes etc... Inc strand testing.

I done a colour correction Saturday, but as it was my aunt I knew what she had done over time so I didn't need to test, after a mild bleach bath I always use a porosity regulator like 4x4 to make sure the over colour is even.

I'm no top end stylist yet, but i do make sure my consultations are extremely thorough as in my eyes te consultation makes up 50% of the final result and happiness of the client. Xoxo

No i wasnt just having bleach .. but from ive read all salkns should do a strand test and thats what we get taught but any way i know i would of needed one because my hair is quite complex and because its really lkng it would be very hard to fix i should imagine .. oh well i cancelled my appointment there anyway i just didnt want to risk it

How did you get on? X

All salons should skin test, regardless of what service your having. It's unprofessional not to. I have been a colour technician for 5 years and personally I don't do many strand tests, the colour will vary anyway, they should be able to get a good grasp of the condition Of your hair from looking at it. I know your worried about your hair but you have to put some trust into the professionals

Hi ive found anouther salon now they seem really nice thay adviced me to have my hair stripped twice to try get a neutal base and then to have a semi colour put on and then if i want to go lighter to do it graduly with hightlights to minimize the damage so fingers crossed all goes well thursday x

Hi,

You can't do a skin test for bleach as there is no PPD in bleach as its nit a colour, it's a lightening product.

Strand tests for a colour correction can be a waste of time and inaccurate as hair lifts differently all over the head, Although you should have a very through consultation and be aware of the damages of multipule bleach baths as it can be damaging to the hair.

You could go lighter gradually with a full head of highlights which would look more sun kissed and not damage the hair much!

Hope this helps!xxx

Yea i think that was scaring me all the bleach application she was talking about doing but i just didnt want the bleach put all on my head to find it wont lift at all because i had a strand test at collehe and there was virtually no lift what so ever .. But the new salon i went to has said to do a colour strip avoid the bleach for now then do a semi colour and gradually lift the colour with highlights sounds more safer and they just seemed much more thourgh on consultation... i think it was the first salon that scared in me in first place wer they put permenant on my hair lol x

Whilst the above is perfectly true, I would always perform a skin test as it's usual to tone the hair after a bleach process and it would limit your product options otherwise.

Also, it just seems more professional and thorough to me.

Strand test ALWAYS!
