Lifting was a major issue in the first instance.

These days, it sidewalls. I do get slight lifting sometimes on the left of the nail at the sidewall - not the right, so it's something I'be been concentrating on, as in pushing into place better.

Application of forms - omfg - that was such a blooming nightmare, it put me off really going for it until I got the hang of it around Jan this year! I rarely tip anyone these days! I cannot believe how scared I was of the sticky things! lol:lol:

When I first started out the hardest things I found to master were:

Firstly - Ratio
Secondly - Never sure how much product was required for a strong yet natural looking nail enhancement.
Thirdly - Getting the cuticle area flush.
Fourthly - Lifting.

Never thought I would be able to get a set done under 3 hours.

Each different course I did afterwards you were taught it differently and what you did learn previously, you were told it was wrong.

Oh and remembering the primer lol that took a while to remember and a few years after I did, I started a product that didnt need the use of a separate primer.

as im still quite new to nails im still trying to get to grips with my smiles, but they are improving. also tip blending, as im always aware not to file the natural nail.

Lifting was a big problem for me to start with that's got a lot better but i still struggle with the lift lines when i am doing infills i dread infills but i have a lot of people trying to go to long between appointments.

For me it was all about the angle of my brush and using less product. Once i mastered this i never looked back.

Plus, i was never told during any of my training courses that my nails were thick. But looking back they definatley were. It annoys me that none of my tutors pointed this out. It was only by looking at photos from credible nail technicians and seeing the work they produce have i trained my eye for a natural looking nail. This for me was a major breakthrough.

It was ratio and tip blending for me.

With tip blending I was always scared stiff I would damage the natural nail

With ratios I could just never get it right, always too dry or too wet

well mine was and still is a bit..... mix ratio.....i am alot better now but i still think its causing me some probs.
Also i seem to have solved most of my lifting now but i still need to work on zone 3 being blended flush to the natural nail
I am sure it will come eventually, lol!

Hiyah

For me at the very start it was shaping the nail tip.. as at college the tutor told us just to file like hell until you get a shape!! OMFG!! I said under my breath how do you know when to stop, this made the class snigger and I got such a death stare that I had to look away lol :)

Also smile lines omg!! I have packed my L&P away for now as I am so god damn frustrated with the damn stuff (well for now that is) also the blinking sticky nail forms I hate them with a passion Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!! I just can't apply them and I feel so stupid and I really do not like it when I something so small gets the better of me.

Also Heat spikes OMFG!! I've had a few of them I tell you :)

For me it was blending and also buffing down for infills I dreaded it when I at to blend the tip and would take ages trying not to touch the natural nail  The buffing away of lifted product was another nightmare I would just spend an hour chasing the lift line up the nail.

Wow...amazing how many of you had challenges with blending tips! If YOU'RE new and this is a challenge for you...........

Get yourselves some 'Performance Tips'....NO blending, so flexible they fit almost ANY nail shape, just adhere and apply product...it really IS that easy:)

Or...you could just learn to sculpt:lol::lol::lol:

Tiping was the bain of my life for a time. Air bubbles or way too much adhesive. This took me ages to master for some reason.

The hardest thing for me to learn was that broken, damaged nails are not necessarily your fault.

Sets of enhancements coming back damaged and broken, picked etc used to be sole distroying, and if im honest even though I know my application, strenght etc of my gels are very good, when the odd one comes it's still hard even though i know it was either an accident or poor after care, or on the case of my heavy handed friend, just what's gonna happen! I need to toughen up haha

Oh and timing!! :green:

Definately tip blending and product control.

aww... looong time ago!! lol.

I'd say... the thickness.
my very first l&p set was so thin! it stayed until the next rebalance, but I was so worried about it that I then went throu a thick phase... during application. then I had to file... I master filing now lol.

As part of TPTW (thought provoking thread week) I've got a question for you all...

What part of your enhancement training did you find the hardest to master?

For me it had to be tip blending, I was scared as hell to file the natural nail and hurt my victims (models).

Don't be shy, share yours with us

erm, basically everything at the moment :o. I'm still training.
Just like you I am terrified of hurting the clients when filing. I started training in nails years back but quit because I made one of my models bleed ! It really knocked my confidence. But I'm back now YAY!.
I so regret all those years.:|SIGH.

You'll get there, honest

What I like about this thread is the honesty of those who have replied, it goes to show that we were all new and found certain areas difficult.

While doing a new set last night the timing issue came up again for me if I am truly honest I am not much quicker than when I first started which is terrible.

I know while working that I am taking to long but I just cant speed up, its all the looking at the shape and correcting smile lines which sometimes don't need correcting

Tip fitting is another one for me they always seem to fit when I try them then when they are glued down and no way I can shift they they don't fit:irked:

Never know another 5 years and I might just get something right:o

^no!!!!!

lol.

trust yourself aboutt he smile line and you're there!!!
as for speeding up... and shape... use the light, I have a *neon* so I use the reflexion of the *line* to see if the nail is fine or needs a bit of file here and there...

I found every part of enhancement training hard to master :o

Any form of training scares the bejeebies out of me and makes me all clutsy and fumbly....

If I had to go for something specific...then filing probably....
I was just too scared of putting any power behind my filing....

but I still have to say all of it....and I went into it thinking it would be a breeze....
